I am the third owner of an imported to Florida C4S. It looks like the car was rustproofed by the dealer but it is not mentioned in the used car sticker from Brumos Porsche. I don't know if the factory would have done rustproofing as an extra during production. First, do I need to look out for any specific problems which might result from the rustproofing process? Seems to have worked ok so far, no rust or corrosion on the car that I can see and I had the underside checked by a local dealer. Second, on the inside jamb of the driver's door below the latch and at the point where the rustproofing went in there is a black cap. Around the cap is some hard black "plastic" residue which I presume slopped over when the car was rustproofed. All of the other rustproofing points were "clean." Does anyone know what the residue is and how can I safely get it off the painted surface of the door jamb?
Use some 3M "General Purpose Adhesive Remover" to soften the rustproofing material. It is just a parafin like product. You can use a body shop plastic squeege to scrape it off when it softens up. Neither operation will damage the paint. You can doll up with some wax.
Sorry, I don't know about the Goo-Gone. I think that may be some kind of lacquer product that is pretty strong.
Any mild solvent would work, like a a paint brush cleaning solvent. Also, enamel reducer will work and won't harm the clear coat. The rust proofing is just a waxy product. It may scrape off with the plastic squeege.
