Thanks DJ & Greg,

Even though I'm not intereted, valuable info.

I though about that (selling the old one) also, which makes sense.

DJ, You said you paid $4k for the whole deal, did you get used one or was that new? And how much people are paying for used stock trannies (just the ball park obviously)?

Greg, you're correct, Euro box doesn't have those.

Thanks!

Here is my qustion. Are there any of you guys who own the car for more than a year...who already spent more than 1000 dollars on performance upgrades and still didn't get the third party performance chip? If there are such...would you please tell why didn't you?

I have spend a....ahem... good amount of money and still no chip because I took the "upgrades" in order of importance to me.
IMO the first upgrade that someone should do is suspension especially if you track the car. A good chip will give "some" power, as Boris said there are several regulations that Porsche had to take into account like fuel economy, drivability etc. A bright example of this is the gearbox. For 1994 and some 1995's in Europe Porsche installed the G50/21 box which has shorter gearing. For the US models and later years Porsche went with the G50/20 box to meet better the regulations of US, Switzerland etc. I recently installed a G50/21 box in my car and I can tell you that the "upgrade" will blow you away!!! The car is faster, it pulls continously from all the gears as the shorter gearing keep it on the power band, an amazing difference. This is a better "upgrade" than the chip. My point is that much like tha fact in my mind that all 993's should have had the G50/21 box in the same fashion you could apply the chip designs. A good chip designer will make it custom for you and can improve on power with fuel economy or emissions as possible trade offs.
The fact remains that certain chips have been proven to successfully add a few horses on the engine. Just don't expect a huge difference.

Danny, how much did Mike charge you for the upgrade?

Edit: Spoke too soon.

Thanks Danny.

FF,
If you want to have your tranny re-built let me know and I can put you in touch with my mechanic. He has done a lot of tranny's for almost all Porsche racing teams in the US and does a lot of work for other shops that don't have his expertise. Just send me an email if you need his info.

LAT, David and Finn, to answer your questions the box came from Germany from a fellow Rennlister. The cost to the door of my mechanic with duty came to around $3500. I will expect to sell my stock box for around 2K which is still cheap to recover some costs. I imagine if anyone has a mint box they could sell it for around 3K easy.

Finally I would agree with Greg that for racing applications it is better to re gear. But although on the long run it would pay off, my budget is shrunk from all the mods I had to do... Also if you do not have track work in mind the euro box is for sure a great upgrade...

I did not go to the RS clutch...next year...
I would imagine that with the RS clutch and flywheel the car will be flying. It is still hugely impressive though even with stock clutch.

Thank you very much Greg,

I'll keep that in mind, but since I'm at the moment totally broke (at least when it comes to Porsche spendings, just did PSS-9, RS, camber plates) this will have to wait.

I'm not planning to build a race car out of my 993 (even though mods & removing stuff are pointing to that direction, I guess in the end it will be basically a race car driven on the street & tracks. I tolerate a lot of stuff that most people don't so driving a car which for most would be unpossible, is still fine with me! ) and getting euro box & then selling my stock sounds more appealing (money wise) but who know when little time goes by...

BTW, do you have any idea when you're going to be at Sebring or any other south Florida tracks (if ever), it would be nice to meet you.

DJ,

Thanks a lot for you too. Although I should not thank both of you guys since now I have to do this, before your help & suggestions, this was something I might end up doing...
