Default GPW 993 on BaT

Guys:

Ever since selling my 1990 911/964 here on Rennlist about 5 years ago, I've been hankering for another air cooled Porsche. I poke around occasionally on all the usual "for sale" sites to see what's available. In spite of the current economic climate, it seems that the pricing on the cars I like hasn't softened much.

I'm a sucker for a white car and recently spotted this car on Bring a Trailer. Primarily CA car until acquired by Dick Barbour Performance here in GA and sold in 2019 to a fellow in Texas. Looks pretty good in the pictures - but they always do.

Any thoughts from the board on this car would be appreciated. See link below. Thanks!

I have a GP White 95. I put on a Euro bumper cover and repaired the surface rust around front and rear windows when I replaced the glass. The paint is single stage- my body shop had BASF take pictures and the sunroof panel back to their lab to recreate the paint from scratch as many of the pigments used in 95 are no longer allowed in paint. I would how the seller answers the question about blending and whether they used single stage or base/clear on the car. Otherwise it looks great!

I've seen the car in person and it looks super clean. You aren't that far away and you have five days left why not fly in and see it!

JB:

Unfortunately, my schedule won't permit an in-person inspection. I appreciate your thoughts on the car, since you have actually laid eyes on it.

The paint work is a bit of a concern. It seems extreme to respray from the front of the doors all the way back to fix a rust spot in the rear window corner. What was your impression of the paintwork on the car? Could you tell it has been resprayed? From the BaT comments, it sounds like a good shop did the work.

Thanks,
Mike

The paint work I saw looked really good. I'm not a potential buyer though so I wasn't examining the whole car. I really saw the drivers side, opened the drivers door looked inside it looked super clean in-and-out it left a solid impression. If I was in the market I would definitely have kept looking at it lets say that.

JB: Thanks for the additional information. Based on responses to my questions by the seller (acting for the owner), it looks like the driver's seat has been redyed to some extent and likely the entire car has been repainted with base/clear. So that is a bit of a let-down. But I really want a driver, not a museum piece, so I've placed a bid. We'll see how it goes.

It will be interesting to see how the respray affects the value of this car, compared to what looked like a really nice 1995 Speed Yellow 993 with 70K and original paint that sold about a week ago on BaT for $88K.

Is there enough time to get a PPI done? But I agree with you a "driver" is your best bet for pricing and so you'll actually drive it.

I usually want my stuff perfect but I picked up a mechanically solid although cosmetically rough e90 m3 last year and I have never had so much fun not worrying about it.

A lot of nice upgrades + no SAI issues.

The car is a driver and white is a very forgiving color.

^^^ Agreed. I've always been a sucker for a white car, too. It hides many sins.

What would you consider to be FMV for this particular example?

That looks like really nice car. Caught my attention too. I really love that Cashmere interior. My friends black Tip 1995 has the same and it's super beautiful. Maybe the best interior on 993's.

This rarely seen combo where the dash has the Cashmere parts too is probably the best 993 interior I've seen.

The used car market has softened lately.

Some NB cars sell at a high price, some don't. In fact there is one NB 993 on PCA market place which is only $48K, the car looks like a bargain.

As the winter approaches, prices will soften a bit too.

A nicer 993 sold here on RL for about $80K, so this white one can probably be had for < $80K

^^^^^ I don't see the $48K car you mention in the PCA classifieds. There are a couple of cabs for sale there, and one for $51K, but I have no interest in a rag-top car.
