Original primer of a 993
Some time ago I watched a video of a Porsche 993 production in the 90s in Zuffenhausen.
Unfortenely I can't find it anymore.
If I remember they said in paintshop all bodyworks got a red primer.
Is this right?
Does anybody knows old videos of 993 manufacturing?
regards
Peter

They use a sealer first then a primer and the thickness can vary considerably. The sealer is a lighter gray then the primer.
This is a nice cut view of the paint. The light gray is the sealer the darker gray the primer then color and clear. This car had a few additional color and clear but ignore them for this.

I happened to be showing a metallic pearlcoat paint. I was trying to point out the primer and sealer. All metallic colors had clear long before the 993 was a thought. Porsche had to start conforming to the clean air policies being introduced and by 1994 most all paints went from solvent based to waterborne. By 1994 all black cars were base clear and the other solid colors came in both single stage and base clear for a while as they fixed issues with the clear peeling. All B/C paints were waterborne by 95 and AFAIK by 96 most all paints went to base clear but you need to check your paint code to verify. There are different paint codes depending on if they were B/C or S/S. For example grand prix white came in 92R which was a waterborne B/C or 908 which was S/S. 84A or 80k was guards in B/C & S/S etc.
