What happened to my GR 964? Well,I was about to sell it to this really nice longtime Porsche nut from Manakin-Sabot, VA but he decided he didn't like the gray interior!

Great to hear from you, Larry. Look for some email from me. BTW, I did sell the 964 for asking price to the first person who looked at it. Probably just should have kept it, as I am finding cars in that kind of condition are not too common!

Shameless plug...

It's not what you're looking for but my 95 C4 black on black sunroof coupe has recently gone up for sale. All original and stock except ROW sport suspension with Bilstein HD. 60k miles. $35k. Email for photos or info.

Thanks,

Jack

Talking

Sorry to drag up this old thread again, BUT I AM NOW A 993 OWNER!! YIPEE! I figured since so many of you shared in my search process, you might as well share in the good news too.

On Friday I flew to Georgia and bought a '98 C2 S Tiptronic. Arctic Silver with full supple black leather, factory aerokit II (this looks particularly good on a silver car, in my highly biased opinion), SS exhaust tips, headrest crests, 18" twists, new Pirellis, full power driver's seat, Porsche floor mats.

I drove it 550 miles towards home Friday, and the remaining 200 or so Saturday. Car performed *flawlessly* in all conditions and is tight as a drum. At 42,000 miles it is completely rattle-free and without any wind noise until triple digit speeds (a brief "field test," I am not reckless on highways). I arrived home refeshed and happy as a 6 year-old on Christmas morning, a pretty apt anaolgy, actually.

By 7 PM yesterday it had its first coat of zymol. My joints are paying the price today, had to gimp over here to my chair and I can barely lift my waxing arm, but it was worth it.

Many, many thanks to all those who helped me in my search. I got dozens of email leads and advice, but I want to especially thank Danny, Atlanta Kevin and Jason, each of whom went out of their way to help by passing on multiple leads or graciously answering my dumb questions.

Also want to add my name to the list of extremely satisfied customers of Dave Maynard (www.europeanlocators.com), the broker I worked with and well known to many listers.

I'll stop before this gets too much longer, but some points I want to share while they are fresh in my mind:

1. Long-distance purchases can work out. I got on the plane before ever seeing the car, and it turned out to be *better* than described. The whole transaction was very smooth from start to finish.

2. There is always a way to get a PPI. This car was located in a rural area 2 1/2 hours from the closest Porsche dealer. For a very reasonable fee, an expert technician drove from Atlanta, complete with Bosch hammer, compression tester and other tools, and did a PPI in the owner's garage.

3. For better or worse, there is real variation in the quality of 993s out there and miles are only a rough guide to condition. The car I bought had been meticulously serviced and kept, and driven on the smooth roads of the south. A Chicago car I looked at had only half the miles but creaked, whistled and had more chips than paint left on the bumper cover--none of which was evident without an in-person inspection.

Those of you who are still awake, thanks for reading. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I'll try to post some pictures later.
