Ray and Kim,

I realize that you guys don't really know me, but I am not totally braindead(maybe almost, just not totally).

The reason that I had asked the question was that a Rennlister had told me that adding more than 12 oz might cause a problem(vague).Since my tank is ~19 gallons, I had thought that the 20 oz size would be appropriate.

I had read the (20 oz)bottle and it says to add up to no more than 20 gallons of fuel after adding the Techron to a near empty tank.

I just figured that since there was some doubt in my mind as to whether 12 or 20 oz was most beneficial that one of the more knowledgable voices on the board could make a recommendation.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with a neophyte.

In most threads discussing Techron, it is stated that it wise to get an oil change a couple hundred miles after adding the Techron. I have yet to see that remark in this thread.

So I ask, is it really necessary to change oil soon after adding Techron?

In my opinion, no. Others will disagree. My thoughts are in a car with tight rings, only some minute fraction of the treatment and/or dirt is going to get past the rings and into the oil. The vast majority is going to be blown out of the exhaust. Any small amount of dirt will be cleaned up by the filters and any unburned Techron will be diluted in 12 quarts of oil, and will evaporate off quickly. You get a small amount of unburned fuel and exhaust past the rings all the time anyways (blowby), are you worried about this?

Of course, I’m assuming that you change your oil regularly. I just don’t think that it needs to be done after a fuel system treatment. Also note that none of the fuel system treatment instructions make any mention of changing your oil.

Tom speaks volumes of truths here,.....

I've recommended an oil change after Techron treatments in cars that have never used Techron before and/or Factory recommended oil change intervals.

Tom is right on the money,....if you change your oil as frequently as one should, then you may simply use Techron 3-4 times a year with no worries.

FWIW, the amount of Techron already blended into the fuel is inconsequential, and will do little toward the control and prevention of carbon accumulation on the valves and injectors.

Oil changes are much cheaper than a proper overhaul.

Well, it was a red herring. But thanks for the discussions anyway. I always learn so much. The dealer tells me the turbo boost valve was stuck open, that's why the CE light was on. Oxysensors are fine. He wants to sell me a new one, $165. Sound reasonable?
