My significant other and I are set to do the PCA Performance Driving School later this week. Instead of renting helmets, Iwas thinking about biting the bullet and buying. I've Googled as best as I can, but can't find a place in San Diego that sells Bell, Gforce or whatever. I suppose that I could look at motorcycle helmets that are SA2000 and meet the autosports requirements- there are enough cycle shops here.

Can anyone point me to a walk-in place where I can try and buy?

I don't think you'll find any auto rated helmets (the "A" in "SA") in motorcycle shops. I've only seen "M" (motorcycle) rated helmets in bike shops. But no ideas from me.

Dave turner has helmets for auto racing. Try there.

I don't think I've seen shops that sell "SA" helmets off the shelf. I've mail-ordered helmets directly from Simpson or OGRacing in the past (Racer Wholesale also is a good source). Their fitting guides work pretty well.

I'll let you find their web sites; you're a big boy.

Adn if you have to struggle to get your head in, but DO get it in, it's probably NOT tight!
