Suspension refresh time….
Suggestions, comments, terse insults wanted:
97 C4S, had an H&R SS suspension system complete with H&R adjustable sways installed by the previous owner. That PO put approximately 500 mostly track miles on the car prior to my acquisition. Car was bought at 63k miles in 5/2010.
move forward to today, just rolled 128k.
Walrod bushings in the lower control arms shortly after acquisition.
Front monoballs replaced twice, as recently as last November
Both lower trailing arms just replaced this week
No visible leaking from the struts, but everything is off. Most recent alignment corrected some of the handling ills…but I suspect that at minimum the rear kinematic toe is off.
Alignment in December by a very well known shop in Maryland…didn’t catch the failing lower ball joint in the rear lower left trailing arm.
Assuming that the extremely well known shop in Rochester didn’t have the kinematic tool also. The initial alignment spec’s from the December alignment, once setup…were wildly off. Car likely had less than 500 miles on it post that work in December.
Anyway…back to the question at hand. H&R no longer support’s/provides the rebuilding bit’s for that suspension system, but they are available. I was under the impression that they are essentially rebranded Bilstein guts…true?
options:
-rebuild the struts, maybe soften one of the springs-helper spring setup, so should be straight forward
-brand new system, options available ideally thru hoped for comments
car is street driven only. It has been magic a number of times during my ownership. But just as time diminishes my “sharpness”, the 993 has likewise followed suit. Some of that diminishing performance is likely due to how I have jumped shop to shop over the 12 years of ownership…NJ, CT, MD, NY.
Back to the anyways…thoughts about suspension options going forward.
thanks peeps

Bring the car to Protosport in NJ, they will sort it out, and they know how to align the KT.
When I drove in your car a few years back (Skaneateles), the spring rate was too high and the car bounced around too much. I'd fix that if you haven't.
If you have the funds I'd put on KWv3s or PSS10's.

Yes, H & R are rebranded Bilsteins, Dan @ Hairy dog revalved mine to his secret spec, They are like magic and close to Moton or MCS in effect
for street use I'd highly recommend emulating RS, which means sport rubber for the front and rear A arms and for the KT arm
The stock eccentrics for adjusting alignment can be problematic, never seen a street issue but for track use certainly an issue
