Little follow up:

I finished mine today. And be warned; the DIY on Robin's site says "a small amount of oil will drip out when you finally get the cover off, although its not much", but mine leaked about twelve bucks worth (at $5/quart). So have a drain bucket handy.

It's much easier than expected. All the cap screws cooperated and I had removed the heat exchangers (also pretty smooth process) in order to do an enema on the secondary air injector ports; but that's another story.
