Default Replacing AC evaporator

Yes confirmed my AC evaporator is leaking. Car is in the shop now. Will be replacing it with OEM Porsche evaporator. What else should I do " while I'm in there"? Gas tank is coming out etc. Car has 150k miles.

Basically do all the AC stuff.
Condensor, Drier, expansion valve, ballast resistors, all new seals. Reseal the AC compressor or just replace it with an oe denso 10PA15C. You might as well replace the front fans if they are noisy too. Most of this is just to fix it all at once so you aren’t without AC.

unlike in the back, there’s not much to do while you are in there in the front.

Hi OS,
Replace or have rebuilt any servomotors the OBD HVAC says are malfunctioning.

BTW - the OE for the evaporator is Behr if you want to avoid paying for the Porsche box. Ideally you want a @griffiths evap due to its updated design but it's sold out.

Thank you both for your inputs! Very helpful. I'll update once the job is done.

Replaced the evaporator. I was surprised how small it actually is. I thought I'd would be the size of a briefcase. It's more like the size of a lunch box. See pic with my shades. Evaporator was toast, as you can see from all the die. Also replaced the condenser. Went with factory Behr. All servos checked and ok. Cleaned out fan behind CCU. Huge shout out to Modderman in Mountain View (right next to custom alignment). They did the work and David (owner) is great. They did all this in 2days! Leak most likely occured in lower left section of evaporator (as seen in below pic with my shades)

Nice..looks like the original unit. Yeah the evaporator is not that large surprisingly. Did you replace or change the seals on either side of the expansion valve? If not, no biggie as you can do it without dropping the fuel tank. It's just that the original seals were original black neoprene and have probably hardened vs the green HNBR ones. Just know that when those seals go, it drips the dye & oil back on the evap, and you may think you have a evap leak when its the expansion valve.

Nice job and I hope its all blowing cold again!

I just had mine replaced too. I ordered the FVD all aluminum version. The shop also replaced the expansion valve and the blower fans.

Last point I'll make is that after I got the car back, I noticed the mechanic didn't replace the expansion valve, after I told them to " check everything out" and replace what needed to be replaced. In talking to him afterwards, he said he looked at it and it look good and that for all the AC work he's done (sound pretty extensive) on 993s, he's replaced like 2. Good news is, to replace it later, if it fails, doesn't require pulling out the gas tank etc.

Life is sweet with a good AC!!
