Greg...Down boy, down boy...
I love the line in the auction listing - "THIS IS A $80,000.00 CAR FOR UNDER 20-K " Who writes this stuff?!?!?!
As I read the auction listing, I can't help but remember the Johnny Cash song called 'One Piece at a Time' about the guy who worked at the Cadillac factory and would smuggle one part out at a time. After many years, he put it all together and when asked what year the car is the song goes "Well it's a 50,51,52,53,54..."
It's likely that someone who is 26 may not have heard of the song so here are the lyrics - Song Lyrics
Oh boy...brings up terrible childhood memories of my Dad making me listen to awful music - I need a drink!

LOL! I apoligize if I was too harsh on Alex. I sincerely hope his new car is perfect.
Guy that wrote that was probably a former securities analyst for Merrill Lynch.

Alex,
That was one STRONG Viper (11's), but keep in mind that this "new" 911's 3.0 (with 3.2 heads?) will be a potent 175 HP mill (even with "tri-flow" (not "trueflow") headers).
It might be a stretch thinking it "would outrun a non-turbo 993" in this heavy low power configuration. Your looking at solid 15 sec 1/4 miles in this machine. 993 stockers are 13 second cars all day long.
Now... If you wanna make some HP with this car, then send it off to: www.imagineauto.com
You should have seen the latest conversion done to a 1974 Carrera last month (its now an intercooled turbo 3.0 liter weighing a mere 2400 lbs). Here is a pic:
ImagineAuto shoots cars out the door that rival jet airplanes. Your Viper was tame in comparison.
Give that new toy some "bite" to go w/ that twin turbo looking "bark."
A 26 year old millionaire & www.ImagineAuto.com - A match made in heaven I can assure you!

And by the way don't take on Greg's bet-he knows something we don't and it's a crime if he should win : ). Need to buy that 73 RSR so I can admire Greg's car standing still : ). Hope it turns out ok with the new purchase and all. Regards. Mike

Good luck with your car Alex,
and dont be put off by our opinions , I think they are genuine comments meant with no ill will - just good advice. It looks like you went in to this purchase with your eyes open and will get what you expected/paid for.
Let us know what the car is like when you get it and post some pics. It would be interesting to see the car in more detail.
Regards
Tito.

Just my .02 worth.
Alex, I sincerely wish the car turns out to be what you were expecting. IMHO, I wouldn't touch something like that with a 20 ft. pole. Unless you're going to keep it forever, I think it would be difficult to sell in the future. BTW, wealthy people rarely tell others they're wealthy. They don't need to and they don't want to.
Don't mean to be harsh, but just some friendly advice.

Alex,
If you like what you bought then it's money well spent.
I would offer a word of caution though... Beware of desperate sellers on eBay! The last line from the seller's May 14 update has me a bit concerned:
"I AM PLANNING TO SELL THE CAT AND NOW CAN NOT AFFORD A NO PAY. YOU MUST STICK TO THE AUCTION TERMS. THANKS"
If it's come to selling the cat, I think he'd be willing to say ANYTHING to a person willing to buy the car. Just my 2 cents!
Matt

Thanks for all the input, I guess time will tell exactly what it is that I bought...
Imagineauto is definately a worth a visit. I will post some pics once I get the car here.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex - take a look at http://www.imagineauto.com/
They did a twin turbo version on an early 930 - a very sweet looking package. If you want to approach over 400 HP in your car you are going to either have to swap the engine out or do some extreme modifications. Given that you have a 3.0 SC engine to start with, I think an engine swap would be more cost effective (although I have heard of a Jerry Woods modified car here in the Bay Area that is pushing 500 HP on a 3 liter engine). You are probably going to just have to accept the HP you have or sell the engine and get something different to go in there. Modifying a 3.0 to get over 400 HP is likely a $25,000 project for the engine and then you have all sorts of transmission and suspension issues to deal with. Assuming you have a 915 Tranny in the car now, that kind of power will likely overwhelm it.
Of course if you do want to take this all on, my extra set of 993 turbos are good for about 450 HP.

Take a 97 993 for 50 K and put 25 K in the engine or 40 K in the engine and other modifications. What do you think its worth after that. My experience tells me still 50 K. Buy a new 540 i (my current lease car) for 50 K. Is that a better deal or a better decission when it loses 30 % value (15 K, let's not talk about the 3 K stereo you put in and the 2 K aftermarket wheels, that's peanuts) in the first year. I think the car is a good deal, doesn't matter if most guys would buy it or not. If those cars would be of interest to the public it would go for 30 or 40 K. But I would wait for the car to arrive first, drive it for a few days and then make a list what I would like to change. Good luck!
Imagineauto is a good choice. I dealt with them before, good guys! They are on ebay too, user ID is porschephd.
I am coming to SB once a year with the family. Nice place but pricy for us poor Canadians.

Alex,
Good luck with your car but be prepared to be disappointed. I don't think real 993 body panels will fit a stripped '68. "Real metal"? Expect fiberglass.
This looks like a car from an experienced ebay swindler (trustableone, the name alone would scare me away) who knows just enough not to cross the line where the buyer can recover under the ebay fraud policy.
BTW, your 5/17 roadfly posting about this car said "I just love the way this car drives!" hmmmm...

This is what happens when parents let their 13 y/o sons with over active imaginations use their computers. Alex, go outside and play baseball or soccer, you have to much time on your hands if you are making up stories like this...

I did see that post on roadfly but missed that blurb. Hopefully he's just a young kid with a vivid imagination and maybe he'll get one but hope to god he aint 26 yrs old and making things up like that and still living with mom and dad. In Japan they call them "PARASITIC SINGLE". Regards. Mike
