I believe that it is a particular brand of aftermarket parts from which you can get mufflers, tips, airbox mod's etc.

I may be wrong tho' (obviously)!

Personally I wd suggest on the muffler front nothing beats RSR's (at idle my TT sounds like distant thunder or breakers on a reef half a mile offshore - quite simply stunning).

Best, W

Burnham,
Yes, less "sound-proofing" BUT way behind the rear seats and, to be more precise, all the way back in the engine compartment. When factory ordered, the Motor Sound Package (M159), consisted of a drilled airbox cover, modified mufflers and exhaust tips with a chrome finish. The option was not available on turbos. The intent was to produce a more robust sounding exhaust tune. No other change in sound-proofing.

Ross,

if you can make the meet next week you can see my motorsound box cover

It does make a noticeable difference when you hit the go pedal, but just motorway or constant throttle work is no louder really.
Above 4k revs the induction roar is great.

I tell you what, if you come along in your car I'll even let you try it up the road on yours if you like. So you can really hear the difference in a known car. It is only a couple of clips to change it.
I currently have the undertray off of mine, so it may be a little loader as a result than yours anyway.

If you want to take me up on this, let me know so I can make sure my car is presentable enough to lift the hood on

Cheers,
John (94L Iris Blue C2) <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

FWIW, option M159 did not include the revised mufflers in the ROW. These mufflers were only included on North American cars.

Thanks again folks,

John W, I will be there on Tuesday for sure, I'm coming from Langley so it should'nt take long. This will be my first meet with you fine chaps and I'm eager to learn all I can....seems like there will be a fair number of us as well.

I'd like to take you up on the offer, though it will probably mean I will end up spending more cash!! My last car (was rice burner - sorry) cost me an arm and a leg in modifications, but it was pushing 258BHP at the wheels so it was worth it . I did promise my girlfriend the same thing would'nt happen with the 993...ho hum.

Don't worry, we are an informal rabble at the best of times. The gatherings are growing in numbers each time, and as a result it is becoming harder to find enough time to talk to everyone.
If you can get there early, your more likely to find a space in the car park at the rear.
I'm sure some of the other guys will point you in my direction if you can't find me. And there is no way I am going to wear a carnation in my button hole !

Don't worry, you don't have to go silly on the spend front. I've not done a great deal to mine, and still love it. You have a choice in modding your current air box, or buying the proper motorsound job from somewhere like Gert. I did the latter, so I could easily swap back if I wanted to (I did for the Goodwood track day - and still failed the noise test first time round !)

The other guys will fill you in on what mods are popular, and what are just to spendy.
Suspension in a favourite (seen your other link), as are airbox, silencers & tips. All other engine mods with the exception of a chip can be pretty expensive. RS3.8L is probably a good one, as is the TPC charger, but the jury is still out on the longevity of the latter at the moment.

As for the g/f, I told my missus I would sell my Caterham when I bought a bike in 1997. Several bikes later, and a P car, and its still in the garage

You will be surprised how many people had jap stuff before their Porsches - many had more power too, but no soul.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

I've found that a collection of 1" holes drilled
in the airbox cover makes a fine improvement
in the sound.

My suggestion would be to drill 6 or 8 holes,
in a neat and tidy pattern of course, try it, and drill more if you are not satisfied.

Cheers Tim, thats the kind of budget modifications I like!

John W, your right about the jap rockets, my 200SX was great fun, especially for the price, and although it was quick (it actually felt quicker than the 993...but could have been the turbo's rawness), it was nowhere near as smooth.

Theres no doubt it, the 933 is a classic.

Hmm, 933, I don't know it!

But seriously, the 200SX nearly made it onto my ownership list - great drive, but couldn't get a decent interior (ie leather) at the time, so went to an E30 318iS instead - well it was just for work while I was building my Fieldbay Magnum 427 replica! But that's another story!
