No dust shield/backing plates on yours? I was debating whether to ditch mine or refinish when swapping over to the 993RS calipers/rotors.
Also for some reason I thought you were also in the "no spiders" camp. Was planning not to run them since a decent amount of folks seem to report decent results without them. They seem like they can be just as much of a detriment as an improvement.
EDIT: oops, I see you did say you DONT run spiders (even though pictured). That's what I thought.

cut down stock rears to make shorties

stock steel front
all you really need them for is to protect the rubber and electric parts

Just a heads up, Gyrodisk now has some 2 piece floating 322x28 rear rotors(slotted to match the fronts) that retain the parking brake, MJB stumbled on these

I found this Youtube video quite comical (beginning at 24m 10s) and can see why the spiders don't really work as well as intended. If there's a tendency for them to pop out of the piston, they'll just push the pad against the rotor when the piston is retracted and cause some noise. Not planning to run them either.

I see some logical disconnects in your posting:

"I will have to use minimum 18" due to the size of the new breaks. 17" are not an option." "i will forego some ride comfort"
To be clear 18" wheels will result in a harsh ride also since the tires will be very low profile there will be no warning when they are at the edge of their grip. They will simply let go and slide, not exactly a safety-oriented option for a predominantly street-driven car.
Consider keeping the stock brakes that are outstanding, to begin with. For a car being driven 40K miles a year consider stock 17 or even 16" wheels to provide some compliance.
My suggestion is to drive the car for a year or so to get a feel for it before jumping into modifications. Your modification desires will most likely evolve.

thank you for your feedback! I agree with your assessment in principle, maybe i need to provide some context:
Maybe i am used to different breaks, but so far the performance has been "ok" in my view, based on my previous experience. If i can get more breaking performance, it is in any case a safety plus.
As to 18" - a buddy of mine is running 19" - which i would consider a harsh ride. the ride on the current suspension and 17s is very compliant and driving 600 miles a day didnt tire me out at all (to my surprise). if i can get more performance / a higher physical limit in terms of grip and improved breaking performance, i dont mind less comfort - my experience on 18" with KW suspension has been that its stiff, yes, but in my perception absolutely sufficient in terms of ride quality.
Finally - yes, lower profile tires will be less communicative as to when they are letting go - please dont forget 5% of 40k miles means that i am still doing about 2k miles a year on track as well. So i hope i should be able to cope with the change in driving dynamics on a daily basis as well.
So far i have driven the car 15k miles in the last 6 months - until the planning for the first step of the build is finished i should be putting on another 5-10k miles. i hope that ll qualify as enough time behind the wheel - but you are right - it would be more sensible/less risky to do it in steps and over a longer period. yet again it is my "daily driver" thereby i am also dependent on it not being in the shops for prolonged periods of time.

that is very helpful. I ll be going through your list with my shop and tire specialist to see what we can find. maybe there is a chance for TUV certification afterall

Well, since i didnt order it in 95' i didnt get to chose. but yes, its full 90s grey. like proper everything you can see touch and smell is actually grey.
