Europe to UK headlight conversion
Hi
I have just bought a 993 from Germany and would like to know how to convert the headlights for use in the UK. I know there is a switch inside the back of the headlight assembly but wasnt sure if anything else needed doing i.e changing the lenses etc. Has any one out there performed this conversion and if so could you shed some light on what has to be done.
Cheers.

Tron,
Congratulations on your new toy
The switch you are referring to does NOT convert the headlight from LHD to RHD.
The regulation light pattern for LHD cars looks like this:
After the switch is activated, the pattern looks like this:
As you can see the light which would normally be lighting up the side of the road on a LHD car would be blinding oncoming traffic if the car is driven on the other side of the road.
To make your headlights fully UK compliant, you need new RHD headlights.

Tron congrats on the new wheels. I as does Graham have a left hand drive 993 and the info posted by Graham is 100% accurate. However I have never bothered to change the lights on my car simply adjusted the lever you refer to on the rear of the light units.
The car has passed three UK MOT's in this condition at three different testing stations and I have never been flashed by oncoming traffic to indicate that I am dazzling them.
I therefore cannot bring myself to fork out the cash for new units. Just my opinion and experience
please don't come complaining if you get pulled!!!

Thanks Graham & Tim
I have since found out that the car came from Sweden originally although I bought it in Germany and I believe they drive on the same side as we in the UK. I have an MOT next week and I will ask them to check the alignment and dispersion pattern for the UK. If all OK then great but if they say it is incorrect then I will have to buy new UK ones which I think are about £200 each.
Best regards
Tron

Tron,
Someone has been feeding you pork pies...
England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Cyprus and Malta are the only European countries where people drive on the left.
Sorry, but Sweden isn't on the list! <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />
The only disadvantage to using LHD light with the RHD switch activated is that you will not have as much illumination on the left-hand side of the road.
Good luck with your MoT.
Graham

Was it Sweden that changed from driving on the left to driving on the right at midnight one night? About 15 or 20 years ago? Sure it was somewhere scandinavian............. maybe Finland?
