Default rothsport check valve

FYI pelican is offering 10% on the Rothsport oil check valve. This is a project I have been waiting to do. Does anyone have detailed FYI for this or experience with the efficacy of this valve?

I think a lot of turbo guys are running them. There may be more data in that forum.

I have heard of these used more on Turbo engines but interested to hear from the brain trust here.

Default check valve

I have a 96TT and I was finding a lot of oil in the intercooler. I was thinking that the turbo's needed to rebuilt. After a lot of research, which included a long talk with Jeff Gameroth from Rothsport, I came to the conclusion that the previous owner refilled the oil tank too high. His suggestion was to drop the oil level and put in a check valve to prevent the oil from draining from the tank when the engine is off.

Installation was very straightforward and easy...well, as easy as it can be when you're flatbacking it. The one thing that surprised me was how close the finished installation was to the axle 1/2 shaft. After several conversations with Earl, the parts specialist at Rothsport, I was convinced/assured that it was installed correctly.

It's been at least a year ago and I believe the oil problem in the intercooler has been solved. With the oil level at about 1/3 to 1/2 on the dipstick and the check valve installation, there is still no oil smoke on startup and oil in the intercooler has signficantly diminished. I'll have better info when I get around to an oil change this spring and can fully examine the intercooler.

Not sure I answered your question, but I'm just relating my experience. As usual, ymmv.

Hi SDM,
Folks have the same issue with the non-turbo. Oil vapor condenses on the inside of the intake manifold and accumulates there. Then upon startup the now liquid oil is sucked into the engine and burns at startup with a plume of smoke. I suspect the intercooler makes for an environment that is always slightly cooler than the oil vapor so that is where it condenses into a liquid.
