I don't have my car now, so I think I've confused things for averybody. There are two gauges - leftmost and second from the left. Which one are we discussing? Let's start with that, so there's less confusion.
If we're talking about the scond gauge from the left (one with numbers from 0 to 5), mine behaves teh same way as ROwen described.
Sorry, everybody.

A few people seem to have had trouble with the oil pressure gauge, myself included.
At first my gauge was normal, suddenly it kept jumping to the very top and would not budge. The mechanics independent gauge (attached to the engine) was reading normal throughout all the problems. I had my sender unit replaced twice, this seemed to work, but my gauge was still reading higher that it should by about two bars. I then had the wiring harness changed under the recall, this did not work either. In the end the mechanic ran a separate wire from the sender to the gauge, and since then it has been absolutely fine.
Where does your needle sit when the ignition is on, but the engine off?

Resurrecting this as I have similar observations;
When ignition is off, oil pressure reads 0
When warm and idling, oil pressure reads ~2.5
When under acceleration, oil pressure reads ~4
When cruising and all rpm, its 'pinned' at the top of the range (5+)
My oil level gauge reads very low, but my dipstick reads in the middle of the dipstick's "swirl." Adding a quart tonight to see if that helps the gauge (driven the car 3x now... ;-)

Interestingly, now if I drive at high speeds both the oil tempriture and pressure readings get stuck and don't budge until the ignition it switched off. I know the tempriture reading is wrong as I can hear the aux cooling fan come on and it is stuck below the 8 o'clock line. The pressure gets stuck at the top at 5+. this is getting annoying anyone have any idea what may cause this?
