Post Adding heated seats?

Please keep your flame-throwers holstered...

Up here in Seattle, heated seats have become more than a nice to have much of the year... Anyone know what's involved with adding seat heaters into a 993? (My wife wants to know. :cool

Thanks,
Eric

My 95 C4 has heated seats, which work very well, by the way, better than the ones in my former Audi A4.

I suspect the wiring needed for it is already in place; you would just have to locate a pair of heated seats. The controls are not placed very conveniently, though; they are down with the adjustment controls on the side of the seat. There is an on/off switch for the heater and a knurled **** to adjust the setting. They get quite warm very quickly on the lowest setting.

You might try some of the dismantlers, like PartsHeaven, etc. I wouldn't expect it to be cheap, though, and, depending on the color of your interior, it might be hard to find a match. If your existing seats are in good shape, you can always sell those later though.

I can't imagine how you might add heaters to your existing seats. You would have to remove the upholstery, obtain the heating elements and controls ... big job and I'll bet the parts aren't cheap.

Eric,
It can be done. Friend had it done by an auto upholstery shop to his 964, I think for approx $250.
Do a cross post on 964 board, I'm sure he'll respond.

A pair of camel colored heated seats from a 993 with over 80,000 miles went for over $2,000 on eBay a month or so ago.[/LIST]

High,
Im the friend Carmen was talking about, u dont need to drop 2G's on new seats to get them heated,
there are after market manufactures of heating systems, I went to my local auto upohlstry shop and had a two setting(hi-low) system installed(driver side only)for 250 dollars. They take ur seat covers off and put the heating pads in and tap the power supply w/ a 7.5 amp fuse, and i had the switch installed on the dash to the far left which looks like it was born there(didnt like the seat location). I drive all the time topless and I forgive u if u dont like to freeze(I dont either). Oh yes, it works fabulous! All cabs should come w/ heated seats delivered in my opinion...this is a popular option and shouldnt be hard to find a shop to do it for you! <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
