So, all the dust etc. crap is being blown into the airbox (and even w/ the filter it can't be good to direct dusty air in it)?
How stupid is that?! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Reminds me of my old Eclipse before I started changing stuff. The small hose used to direct oil blowoff from the head was routed into the air intake pipe after the filter and before the turbo.

It is curious to me that there is not an airbox without the hole for the Tiptronic cars, or at least a plug to block the hole. It seems to be an unfinished engineering job.

Would be good to know if this is positive or negative vaccum pressure (even Robin doesn't know?!).
If airbox doesn't need to suck it, I'd direct the hose somewhere else (inside the cabin propably if you ask from those guys who designed it to blow into the airbox!

Good call, Brick. My transplanted '97 engine's airbox is plugged.
The part number for the plug is 993 110 333 00 .

Hi Bins,
This is not a USA/ROW thing.
My car is German and has a snorkel.
I don't know the answer bit I would think that it is under negative pressure.
Regards
Tito.

My theory for the snorkel is to remove clutch fumes from the cabin.
On older 911's without the snorkel, if the car was driven hard and the clutch smoked a little (or alot) the noxious clutch burning fumes would enter the driving cabin (I've done it on my '80 911 and it smells bad!). On the 993 the negative pressure on the snorkel pulls the fumes through the engine and out the exhaust. A Motorsound airbox cover will still have a negative pressure on the snorkel and still accomplish the same result. The Tiptronic uses a wet clutch and thus the snorkel is not needed.
My 2 cents. <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

I've a friend who goes into conniptions if I don't leave the snorkel disconnected. He's concerned about the filter not completely capturing the clutch dust, and accelerating wear w/in the engine.
I have no data either way, but have been leaving it offset alongside the airbox cover to mollify him

That's cool Phil, you got a part number? I also like your RS script.
E. J.
Edit about a minute later: Oh hell, now that I think about it, it probably doesnt work with my old school retracting spoiler?

I am looking for the part number for the "trumpet", snorkel? the intake tube that is used on the 993RS cars. When I get my 993RS tail, I will want to install this at the same time. I may pass on the RS Script, as much as I like it. On the other hand, having invested in the front splitters, the side skirts, the LFW and clutch, the Turbo S oil cooler, the 993TT suspension with the 22mm front and 21mm rear bars...perhaps I should enjoy this option.
All I need now to complete the conversion is about $20,000 or more in parts. Why didn't I buy a 993RS in the first place? Unfortunately I didn't know they existed...PCA NA sees to it that these types of driver cars (Oil Cooled) simply were not available to the masses, the exception being the 92 Cup Car. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Phil,
You are still missing one important piece....
The black plastic fresh air intake for the cooling/heater system on the left side of the engine also needs a rubber neck and snorkel when you have a tail installed on your car.
The part number is 993 211 270 40, in matter of the fact it is specifically designed for M64.20 RS model 993s.
When you orders yours please order an extra piece for me.
