Default Fabspeed Maxflow tip installation question

Trying to get these new Maxflows installed, and of course I'm stuck and Fabspeed's closed for the day...

I have the mufflers installed fine. When trying to install the tips, however, the donut is too large for the muffler outlet. I tried installing the tip with just the clamp (no donut), but it doesn't want to tighten down enough to hold the tip in the proper position. The tip just hangs down. My stock exhaust was Bischoff type... not that it should really matter.

Anyone know if I'm missing something here? I'll start sucking the beers while waiting for one of the geniuses to chime in

You guys are too damn fast. I didn't even get one beer down. Or maybe I'm too damned slow.

John - I'm heading out to try it again. Thanks dude.

I did not use the donut either. Just use the clamp.

Hmmmm..... well I can't get it to tighten enough to hold the tip securely. Plus, its forcing the tips to the outside of the bumper cutout when I tighten it. It doesn't want to stay centered. I must be doing something wrong.

Does anyone have a pic of what the tips should look like on a narrow body? That might help me.

I may have screwed this up too but my Fabspeed tips are forced to the outside of my cutouts as well. Not sure I like this but the sound is great and the tips are virtually pieces of art.

Richard "motion"

Sorry for hijacking but is this you skydiving wearing a T-shirt?

Edit: Ah! Now when I think of it, a chopper can't go that far up, but it still looks kinda cold?

OK, I tightened those *****'s with a 1/2" ratchet until I thought the bolts would break. They seem to hold. Took the car for a spin and returned to find out that one of the tips had rotated downward. Guess I'll torque it again. The sound is SWEEEEEEEEEEET! Love it.

Thomas - That jump was from 5,000 feet. It was a nice spring day, so not cold at all. Sometimes when jumping from 12,500 feet in the winter, it can be below zero. I wear a sweatshirt for those jumps... and gloves. Things are cold for the minute during freefall down to 3000 feet, but then warm up. Summer jumps are no problem at altitude. Sometimes I jump with shorts and no t-shirt.

Richard-

Had the same problem-seems the bolts have to be tightened a LOT more on the Fabspeed tips than on the stock system. FYI- tips are flip-flopped for wide body set-up so they angle outward to fit the openings properly.

Also-

My whole job took no more than 3 beer-filled hours to do (My second DIY). The hardware on my exhaust came off easily-the Fab's went in same. The only difficulty was trying to keep the tips lined up while tightening down the clamp bolts.

Yesterday was a fantastic day to clean the car and I thought I'd take a shot of my Maxflows with Fabspeed tips on my narrow body as requested earlier. I seemed to wind up with the tips on the outside of the cutouts. They don't touch the body but are definitely not centered. I can have them tight or centered - I chose tight. Anyone have a better answer?
Now we'll see if I can master posting photos.

The donut seems to act as a swivel so as you tighten you can adjust as needed. I am guessing if you are just going with the clamp you are at the mercy of the existing relationship between the two pieces. I think the tips on Joe's cab look awsome! If I were in that situation I might try two things:

another smaller muffler clamp or hose clamp behind the main one.

Or, Take the donuts to an appointment with Mr. Grinder!

I know the "fab" as in speed is not for "fabrication".......but it could be?

i live 2 miles from joe at fabspeed. when i put my maxflows on for the first time it drove me crazy, because i thought he sold me th wrong ones. joe was helpful, and it turned out they were correct. they fit a bit to the right and a bit off centered. yours are correct. i had to adjust, tighten over and over.

Lol, Evan. That was my experience also. Such a simple install but man, does it ever mess with your head! My tips ended up looking about identical to yours, Joe. The left tip is more to the outside of the car than the right tip. Both could definitely be centered more. The tips rotate to the outside when tightening the donut bracket. Maybe its possible to have someone hold them in the center position very securely while the donut is tightened. I'll try it.
