Post 2nd oil cooler

Anyone add a 2nd oil cooler? I am planning on adding one, I see 248F on a hot track day (3rd mark on the gauge). I was thing maybe just adding a 2nd factory unit, if I can get a new one cheap or an aftermarket unit.
Got any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi David:

Good plan,....those oil temps are way too hot and not condusive to acceptable engine life.

If you do not have A/C, you can install an RSR cooler and lines on the left.

If you do have A/C and wish to retain that feature, we use the Cargraphic oil cooler kit that is designed to work on those cars with the left-side A/C condenser.

I have the factory Turbo-S auxilliary cooler installed. Works fine. If you do a lot of track work, look into the Cargraphic unit-- it has more cooling capacity. As Steve mentioned, the factory RSR kit requires the removal of your A/C. Check the archives for an extended discussion of this issue...

Listen to Guru Steve...he has installed these Cargraphic coolers. The best way to do it is to locatre another cooler in the left fender, assuming you don't have air conditioning: I am certai9n you do, as 99% of us in the US do.

I have a friend who installed the Cargraphic cooler in the left front fender. He reports there is a slight degradation of air conditioner performance on a hot day. It is logical that this shojuld happen when you piggy pack a hot oil cooler against an air conditioner condenser.

There is shop in San Diego, Mind Over Motorsports, that install/piggyback a 964/993 oil cooler to the existing oil cooler. I have heard that this approach works well. There are several guys I know who swear by this approach. Give them a call: They may make you up a kit. 858 483 2482.

I have the Turbo S oil cooler and run tracks in the CA desert where it gets hot in August. Whenn I am out there for 20 minutes on a hot day, the oil temp never gets beyound 9:00 o'clock with the exception of one time where it was headed toward 10:00 o'clock and I simply got off the power until it cooled down.

You can also take out your right parking light for increased air flow to the oil cooler. Stay <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

I am one of those here in San Diego that has the piggyback oil cooler on the right side. Works very well from some experience at Sears Point. Have not had a chance to get to Willow Springs in the summer yet. I find that running above 85 mph keeps the oil temp below 9 o'clock, about 7:30 when it is cool outside. If I am runnning on slower tracks or auto-x I get the same temps as before but have additional oil volume so that can't be all bad. I am going to be adding ducting instead of fog lights to provide more air to encourage this cooling trend. Some other have done this with this set up and find it to also help.

I also read recently a DIY on setting the oil cooler fan to high while running on the track. I am considering doing something like that as well, maybe wiring it to a console switch to make it easy to use when needed. Anyone try that?

Happy New Year!

I believe Andial can do this. If I recall they put the switch on the dash someplace, like between two of the gauges. Apparently there is a covered hole that’s already there. Don’t know the cost, though. I’m going to consider this myself, perhaps sometime before summer.
