I was online and saw that Niello Porsche is listing the windscreen for $295.00. This seems really low, the lowest I have seen before this was $380.00. Is there a windscreen option that has to be removed to lower the top, and might this be it? I might drop them a line to get a part number. A dismantler I heard of seems to be selling used ones for $220.00, $295 would be worth it over used.

There are two different types of factory windstops.

One type (which came as a factory-installed option on 993 cabs, but not 964 cabs), attaches to the convertible top mechanism and retracts when the top is raised.

The other type (which is also a Porsche factory part, but is simpler in operation and fits both 964 and 993 cabs), has two arms that plugs into the plastic caps in the rear side panels (below the rear speakers), and two straps that hook into the metal loops in the bottom rear corners of the cabin. It can be removed (very quickly and easily) by removing the arms from the caps and unhooking the straps. I have this type in my car. This is the type being sold by Sonnen.

I can't speak about ease of removal of the former type.

All,

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely get one, but $500 retail is kinda steep. I called Niello, but they said it was $540 or something. Nayone have leads on others less $$$? Thanks.

GEE993,
I recieved your email but was not able to private email you back, you may want to look into it. In any event, the link to Niello is

<a href="http://porsche.niello.com/cgi/tequipment/00004480145" target="_blank">http://porsche.niello.com/cgi/tequipment/00004480145</a>

It seemed a little low to me, which is why I asked. I would assume this is the type that needs to be taken off before lowering the top. Putting the boot on is pain enough, I would rather get the auto one.

HMM, seems this was discussed awhile ago. Some good info here as well...
Notice how some of the prices have dropped, in this thread, Gert was selling them for 600 Euro, now he is asking 370 Euro.

Bummer. Called Niello and the $295 wind stop is for the Boxster. The 993 wind stop is $540. So, guess I'm back to shopping. Gert's is $400+, so is Pelican's. Gonna wait and see if I can find one used. Thanks again everyone for your help.

Only negative for windstop is no small passenger can NOT sit in the rear seat.

The factory windstop does interfere with rear seat passengers only when the top is down. Completly out of the way with top up, it even zips into the headliner, but I find this unnecessary. The wind stop must come out for anyone to sit in the back with the top down, but this is a 15 second procedure and the windstop fits in the trunk.
