Default Prototipo

So I finally got all the proper trim pieces in place with my Prototipo steering wheel. The leather embossed Porsche crest horn button from Design 911 really completes the stock look.

I can’t say enough how much this mod has improved not only the look of my interior, but the way the car feels while driving. I would put it right up there with the goldenrod/ssk and Fister II exhaust must do 993 refresh mods.

Air Cooled,

Did you do the trumpet horn retrofit? Easy to do and sounds fantastic. Gert has the kit for the 993. One of the first things I did on the 993 and 997. They both sounded like Buick’s.

ebay has the 964 column housings. Or as an alternative, get the nardi hub which allows you to use the 993 housings.

I gave them the wheel and they did the install. The airbag light was on for a couple of days while they ordered a resistor…. Next time it was in the airbag light was remedied.

They work in a lot of cup cars…. They all have removable steering wheels which is kind of cool. The only part they asked me to source was the horn button. I guess Porsche had their nose out of joint because they had not authorized use of the crest. Oh well

Thank you. I absolutely love mine. I’ll tell you the smooth leather option was something I had to have because it matched my leather dash. If you don’t have a leather dash and can live with the pebble finish you can save a boatload of money

Thanks for pointing this out, I wouldn’t have caught this. I’ve got the leather dash. I haven’t been able to find one with smooth leather that doesn’t have carbon fiber for the spokes. Mind sharing where you got yours?

Thanks!

Leon, I’m in the same predicament as you.(airbag)

So, I installed one in my 912 Renegade to fix that want. Lol.

I love the look and feel of the Prototipo

Directly from MOMO. It was a custom build and I waited three months.... but that was do to COVID. If you have the full leather dash the smooth leather is the only way to go. The carbon fiber does not do the 993 interior justice. Neither did the yellow MOMO horn button. So pay for the smooth leather and order the Porsche crest leather horn button and you'll have yourself a very nice upgraded steering wheel.

Do you think a 25+ year old airbag will go off? Wear your seatbelt. It is one antiquated steering wheel airbag. Not the contemporary multiple improved airbag systems in contemporary cars today. Are you driving it as a daily, or 2-5 thousand miles a year as a weekend fun car. I don't drive crazy, and I don't miss that old outdated airbag at all.
