They are Stabilus (TM) Lift-o-Mat gas lifts. They appear OK, and the right application. Problem is, I cannot compress either one, even a little. I'm putting about 1/4 my body weight on them, and .... nothing!
Is this normal? I don't want to go thru the effort of putting them on to find out they're frozen by bending my hood in half
TIA

that is pretty much normal. I couldn't press mine down either when I tried to before installation. amazing, huh?
just to be sure, though, what's the part # on the shock that you bought?

Here are all the numbers:
9378KB 0370N 005/04 CK 05
The line above that: D-56070 Koblenz, Germany
I couldn't find these no.s on the Stabilus website.
BTW, I've since been able to compress them somewhat by placing a wooden board across the top of the shock. It left an imprint in the wood.

There is no label. ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Hooray! I was able to change the shock on the pass. side, and the hood now stays wherever you put it.
There was a black, hard plastic sleeve over that shock that I didn't put back on. It seemed unnecessary, and the drivers side didn't have one.
The old shock had 993.511.331.00 printed on it.
Did your car have that sleeve on it?
Thanks for your help, Kelly

Jeff,
The sleeve is to protect wiring in that area so it doesn't get pinched.
Did you follow the DIY on Robin's site to do the change? It is very well written and answers a lot of questions. Also gives good info on the actual change itself.

Don't know what to tell you about the shocks you got, but if it's any comfort, mine had the ability to keep the front hood up when I only had one changed out.
Glad to help, but sorry I can't answer your specific question on your shocks.

Yes, Robin's DIY page is a great resource.
I decided to put the driver's side on too. Not a bad experience. I think I was lucky, tho. I'm pretty inept most of the time. But I'd rather be lucky than good
