Default Varioram

Hi All,

Did varioram become a standard item at some point, or always an option. I have a '97 Cab, how can I tell if I have Varioram?

Thanks

Easy to find out. It is cast in the intake manifold.

I beleive all 993 were Varioram after early 96.

Neil,

See my photo # 4. The Varioram looks like that. It may not have the "Varioram" script on it, though. That style was not used throughout all the 993 production run.

Mike,

Thanks, the picture helped too. BTW your car looks great. Did you post any comments on the ride difference etc. once you went with the Bilsteins etc?

Check out the buyers guide topic just posted, it describes how to use the VIN to check on the Varioram. The 10th digit should be "T" for the 1996, "V" for the 1997, and "W" for the 1998. If it reads "R" or "S" then it is not a Varioram.

Or, you could just lift the engine deck lid and see if there is a Varioram maniford bolted to the engine....

MIke, thanks for the link. Also, I lifted the lid and there it was, plain as day. I could have sworn I looked before, but I guess not. Either way, I'm a happy camper. next up will have to be the RoW kit you installed.

Thanks

Neil,

Heck, man, just roll that puppy into the racing shop and they'll do the WHOLE laundry list in about two days. Just make up the punchlist and have accounting charge it to the 'sundry" account.....

Seems the Varioram script on the manifold was added in 1998 (possibly later 1997s)

Chris:

The '96 Varioram engines did not have the cast-in script. The '97-'98 cars all had that,...

Mike,

Believe me I have thought about it. Unfortunately, everyone is ***** to the wall getting ready for Long Beach. Mind you, working on my 'toys' is actually quite theraputic and gets me back to my roots. Also, I'm quite sure the car is at standard USA ride height, as it looks too high. At least we can do the corner weights here.
