i SOLD MY 96 993 carrera for a 2002 smg m3 coupe I am now thinking of selling the m3 and purchasing a 96 or newer 993 cab. Any advice on where I could get top dollar trade in for the m3 in exchange for a 993.
It seems you and I are amoung many who have bought and then fairly quickly decided to sell our E46 M3s. In fact I might sell mine and buy an E36 M3 again (had a '99 before the '02) and strap a supercharger on it .
Anyway, I concur with Doug - sell it outright. I shopped mine to a couple of dealers while I was looking for my 993 and didn't even get any offers! While the prices are still high (above MSRP even for used cars), the turnover rate seems fairly low so the dealers don't seem to be biting.
The m3 is a great car definitely quicker than the 993. I just do not like the smg I miss rowing on my own, When I sell the m3 I may not even get another 993 perhaps a c2 turbo 3.3 or 3.6 or perhaps an even older turbo.

It looks great... But it's a bit out of my budget, beucase I figure that I'm going to spend about $10K on upgrades, regardless of what car I get. And since it's going to be track car, I don't really care about low mileage.
I was hoping to get something for around $17K, that would leave plenty of money left for go fast goodies!!!
All I can say about the E46 M3 is that compared to my E36 M3 it moved to far away from the sports car world and into the sport touring world. Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT car and the engine really is a piece of wonder -- and it may very well be just as fast or faster around a race track than a stock 993 (or E36 M3), but it just doesn't satisfy that need for having a sporting edge. The E36 had much more road feel and I really miss that. The E46 almost feels bloated. Suwipin and I went through almost the exact same chonology of car purchases and both came to the same decisions.
So for me, it's trade the E46 M3 for either a E46 330Ci or a E36 M3, and I, of course, bought the 993.
Silver Bullet, I really like the idea of the M3 LTW, but it's not quite what I am looking for. Thanks for the link though!
Thats funny. I'm considering selling my 993 and getting a more touring car like a M3 or Audi A6 4.2. Maybe we can trade. Mine is a 95 with 33K miles, 18" SSR GT3 wheels, new tires, alpine stereo with changer, tokico adjustables, b&b triflo, midnight blue on grey leather. The car is in excellent condition. The ride is better than stock - execptionally smooth yet handles great. Exhaust sounds awesome.
I think I want a back seat now that I have the S2000 which I will likely supercharge. Here are some pictures of it.
