What does "working nicely" mean?
Well for me working nicely means normal oil usage, no smoke, engine sounds normal, engine power is normal. Nothing technical just that stuff

Interesting information thanks for sharing your experience.

Lots of advice on oil brands and viscosity: count on it. Over the years I have settled on trusting the guys who have had these engine cases open, lots of them, and lots of these guys still recommend not only the usual suspects, but do so based on engine-open experience, in large numbers, and over many years. And thanks to Bill --as always, sir-- for superb and concise information that speaks precisely to the point: zddp and its varied application over the years. Such information, in sum, is more valuable and relevant to me than whatever post x or y claims in any given forum.

So here is my anecdotal contribution. Because I daily drive and do my own regular oil changes (as opposed to paying a shop) I want an oil that has a good reputation among the experts as noted above, but I also don't want to spend a mint nor try too hard to find said oil: it has to be convenient or I just ain't doing it. My answer has been Mobil1 15/50 and it has since proven itself since 2001 when I bought my car. At purchase, I recorded that my 993 consumed (and dripped from the VCs, mind you) approx 1qt per 2000-2500 miles or so. I had tracked this 993 extensively for several years when I first got it, and have driven it daily since, and am now at 179k very happy miles. Oil consumption (zero drips now) is approx the same, zero change that I can record. Likewise of note, I change oil approx 8-10k miles with big filter, and change the small filter every other change (I know what some of you folks are thinking, but this is still well inside factory rec). And the engine still pulls great and races to redline with zeal. This tells me that not only are these cars ridiculously well engineered, but that perhaps my oil choice and change regimen is likely good.

The SC, otoh, gets the ol' standby Brad Penn 20/50 (or whatever it is called since they changed name): diff car, diff mission, so there is that
