Default Engine Cutting Out @ 5k RPMS

1997 C2S w/ VarioRam.

While putting her through her paces on the highway today, she was intermittently cutting out/losing power at ~5K rpms when at WOT. It almost felt like fuel starve - until it still happened after topping off the tank.

The cutting out didn’t occur every time, but it was taking place 15-20% of the time.In fact, one time the engine completely died and had to restart it.

And insights into what might be a good starting point?

First thing I would check would be the simple stuff:

Fuel filter - when was it changed last
Fuel pump - is it noisy. Check fuel pressure and supply flow if you are able
Replace the DME relay with a know good working unit to prove the operation
Are both distributors turning, and if so put a timing light on each coil wire to see if both are firing. My 993 has a failed ignition module and only had the secondary distributor working.

Try these thing and report back and go from there

Cheers
Todd

Items 1 and 2 are in good order. Off to troubleshoot 3 and 4. Thank you!

That is my bet also. I got one from PP recently. It was a Bosch unit made in Germany which was good.

I had the same problem. I spent hours chasing fuel delivery ideas and even sent the fuel injectors out for cleaning. (They were clean.) Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing in Portland, Oregon sent me in the right direction. He said, "Before you trailer your car 6 hours to me, replace your plugs and plug wires." Sometimes it is the simple stuff.
