Careful what you ask for.. I'm sure there's more than one bureaucrat salivating at the idea of opening up their very own $500M/yr agency with 1500 employees to tackle that very issue right now.

Curious if anyone has had issues with this for their pre-2000 cars. To the OP's point, I'm hoping it won't be an issue for our OBD-2 993s. My 97 993 is due. It's got a tune, but all monitors show ready. .....

I'm about to smog my '97 with giac programming. A 993 authority told me the Bosch ecu is too old for the dmv computer to read in that way so nothing to worry about.

Thanks Ben. Looking forward to your update. I'm optimistic we'll be ok.

Yes and no. Some tunes result in the not being able to connect to the DMV computer (and durametric for that matter). Automatic fail. I had to deal with this with one of my 993s

Just s****** my 95 with Steve Weiner GIAC chip. All good.
they have a picture so if you taken the SAI pump off they’ll fail you.
with a well running engine you’ll pass with flying colors. These things burn ALL the gasoline in every cylinder. 15% CO2 is all that comes out.

Hopefully, a smog station, e.g. especially a referee, in the future doesn't use an OBDII scanner to do a CEL reset after passing the monitors test, and then re-checks the state of the monitors test.

Are you talking about me? My monitors need resetting after disconnecting the battery but I know others have them permanently set. Anyhow most Shops aren't that diligent. They just want their ever increasing fee.

Please tell me more about getting the monitors permanently set. I have an OBD2 993 with cylinder heads that don't have SAI ports, so the whole SAI system is deleted from the car. Is there a way to reprogram the ECU so that the SAI system appears to be present and working?

Some ecu were modified so the monitors would always be ready. I'd reach out to steve Weiner at rennsport (retired) or similar.

The obvious solution to me is a collector car Political Action Group that donates to politicians who support rational smog testing laws like California Assemblyman Grayson's AB-467 Historic Vehicle Exemption.

A politicians "principles" are directly related to donations received.
