Default Remote V1 installations

Am thinking of doing a remote install on my V1; seeing as I use it so often. I have seen somewhere a custom install where the panel read-out & arrows on the V1 unit were etched into the rear-view mirror (& out of the view of prying police officer's eyes!). Has anyone done this and have they noticed any reduced sensitivity from the unit?

George
It's only the V1 remote display that's in the rearview mirror, not the V1 unit itself which must still be located w/a view fore and aft. Other than it's a cute idea, the mirror display (which also requires a new bigger mirror) is visible to anyone behind the car, so what's the point?
If you want a built in display & don't have an OBC, Robin's tach mount seems much better.

I'm not sure, but I believe that the "mother" V1 unit is also a stealth install. Not sure where its placed though.

Also here is a link to a stealth install of the V1 unit. Might not work on my 993 though, needs to be on the rear deck, and the third brake light is high on my 993..

I am bit confused. Reading through my V1 booklet on the best install methods, I see that installing high in the center of the windshield (so long as there isn't a special tint on the window) is the "best practices" method for detection - I confirmed this with a call to the company. Is there another method that works well, once it it is placed in the ashtray? If so, how does that work?

Thanks,

Alex

Alex -
I think Mike placed his remote unit in the ashtray, not the main unit...

WRT to the main unit most have installed it above the rear mirror in some fashion....I have yet to see a true stealth install. I would think in a coupe or targa, it could be installed in a box sitting on the rear shelf or suspended from the roof near the 3rd brake light. Since I have a cab, I'm still wishing for a stealth install in a box suspended under the interior light

So far I have seen remote displays mounted in the tach, in front of the tach, to the right of the steering wheel, and in the ashtray (this is where mine is). Aside from the in-tach mount (which I may do) the cleanest install for the display I've seen is over on the Audiworld forum. ToyGuy (yes, he makes toys) modifies Audi steering wheel shrouds with a hump and installs the display there...right above the wheel, in front of the guages, and looks like it was factory - I may do this on my S6. Not sure what he charges but this might be doable for Porsches as well.

Thx David -
I also just found this from another source. It seems very interesting.

But it obviously needs to be adapted for Porsches.

Alex, My main unit is under the visor, I'll attached a pix. The remote display is in the ashtray.
