To each his own. Personally, I have ALWAYS loved G Red since the 80s when it seemed that practically every 911 was either red or black. It and black ARE the classic Carrera colors, IMHO.
Yet having said that, red was near the bottom of my color-choice list when hunting several years ago, only because of the "ticket-factor." But when I reluctantly went to see one because I wasn't finding my preemo car after months of searching, I was instantly brought back! Red exemplifies "Sports Car" IMO, and is hard to beat in tems of immediate visual impact, and that goes for the owner, not just the onlooker. But like so many things, it's just "flavor." Gotta get what excites you! Peace to all my non-red brethred ..the rest of us already know what we've got.

PS: RS-Man and PorscheDavid: stunning cars!!!

I made polar silver my first choice, but guards red is a close second. I think P-cars look fantastic in red and seem to embody the definition of what a sports car should be. Silver was my choice because I wanted a more stealthy color. Good thing I put on about 100 miles per year with my silver track car.

I have not done a formal study but I can understand why red is, statistically, supposed to be a more prone to tickets. When I'm driving and look in my mirror and see a red car slashing its way through traffic, it tends to get my attention more quickly than an asphalt-blending black car. Same thing goes for yellow and white cars; they tend to pop off of the road more readily than cars that mimic the asphalt, concrete or road mirage.

I am one of those who loves the look of a guards red 911 but I have never wanted to own one.

Each time I have been looking for a new car, I get caught by the less popular colors - maybe just want something a bit different.

I thnk both red and silver are gorgeous colors but this time I didn't want to buy either one.

Go figure.

Guards Red is to Porsches what British Racing Green is to MG's. A classic. So are red Ferraris, little red Corvettes, white T-Birds................

Back in '01, I almost bought a GR 993 identical to the Black car I have now. I loved the GR and believe me, trying to decide not to "go for it" tore me up, especially when even then it was still hard to find C2S's. It just came down to me not feeling comfortable driving around in the car. As luck had it, the car I have now popped up a month later. Love the color-it's just not for me.

Mine's black and LOVE it but I saw a Red'un on the motorway recently and it looked great. Really shiny. They just don't photograph well.

I'm on my second guards red Porsche. Had a few other red cars (RX-7, Saab, BMW, MR-2, etc.) Actually, every car I've ever owned in the states has been red. Different color interiors but that is the extent of my variation. I used to joke I didn't know why they made cars in other colors. While red is not my favorite color for all cars, I've always been very happy with GR. Of course, with a 993 I also like SY, AR, B, and a few other colors; what's not to like?

OK so no-one wants to say what is wrong with "red".

It probably stems from earlier times when if not cared for the red can turn orange. Being left out in the sunlight for long periods (years) can cause this to happen - even if well polished.

Looked at a '96 red cabrio that had not been polished much (if ever!) and it was an orangy colour. Even the Porsche shop had commented on the bodywork by saying "This car needs a polish!"

Of course the guys on the forum would never allow their P cars to reach that stage but red seems to be the worst for fading.

Hope this helps.

I thought racing Porsches seemed to be predominantly in silver or white.

Whats wrong with Guards Red ? In my case the only GR car that I found to be high quality the owner wanted too much money. So, I just bought a superior 996 in Arctic Silver for $2500 less. The AS car was in much better condition, had lower miles and was a one owner.

I was originally looking for a g red car, was unsuccessful and then found Arena Red. G Red is a classic 911 color and very photogenic. It is a beautiful color.

Guards Red is a classic colour. Personally I think it looks better when there is a little bit of black accent, like in the 1984-89 Carrera's.

It all just comes down to personal preference. Some like flashy, some don't. Some don't mind being seen, some do.

To me, it was all about walking out in the garage every morning and grinning ear to ear to see that Guards Red 993 waiting on me...simple as that. There was no other color for me.
