What do you think about wood in a 993 tan cab interior?

The board is great for stuff like this, but at the end of the day, it is what YOU like. Personally, I like the SPORTS part of the car...leather works, but wood doesn't. That is JUST me. I'm betting that the cars that have the wood look really nice (haven't seen any 993s with wood), but for me, I wouldn't choose to put it on.
If you like, go for it, but as with anything Porsche, do it well or don't do it (door strap excluded, apparently).

One of the things that attracted me to my car is the factory wood gear shift and e brake lever. I think they look great compared to the standard leather. I have a few photos available and could take some new ones tomorrow. Please let me know if you'd like them via email.
Thanks,
Joe

I don't know how many of you guys have seen a Porsche exclusive wood setup, but I gotta say that the new 993 I just acquired with full black leather package and full wood package looks, feels, and smells awesome!

Wood? You mean like decking and a pair of Adirondak pine sports seats?
Seriously folks, the wood trim is going for borscht now that the 993 is rapidly becoming a living classic. The trim shops have the stuff sitting now for years and would love to find someone to pawn it off on.
The problem is with all that phoney baloney glossy wood trim, you may ultimately turn your Ubermeister speedster into a Hollywood pimp-mobile. That wood crap went out with the 90's and is not scheduled to be back in style until uh...2015 if not later.
You've just got some cabin fever. Get some good car wax and go to town. Shampoo the rugs, condition the leather seats, detail the wheels. You'll be so tired, you won't even want to think of doing anything else!

Agree with general sentiment here, but the rootwood gearshift **** DOES look good with a tan interior, IMO!
Haven't seen it with the wood e-brake, though. Hey Joe (solsrch) would you post a pic for all our consideration

Wood is for antique boats and Woodie station wagons, not 993s!!!!
But it's your car and your money - butcher it however you feel. Why ask us? You like it? Then do it.

Edward,
I've added a Burl Wood/Black Leather Factory 993 (4 spoke) steering wheel with air bag and colored crest along with matching Factory 993 (6 speed) shifter/boot and E-brake handle and it looks and feels SWEEEEEEET!
I've also been contemplating adding a Burl Wood (high end aftermarket product) Dash Kit to complete my upgrade.
These other guys don't know what they are missing!
(P.S.) I agree that this is all a personal taste issue but despite my improved upgrades (which the factory considers part of their "Premium Package", there will never be anyone denying that I drive an awesome 993 Carrera.

Here is a photo (it is cloudy out today so the flash makes the black, etc. look a little faded or reddish) with the factory wood gear shift **** and e-brake handle with a beige interior. I think it looks great and the three spoke leather and wood steering wheel might look good too. I'm not sure about a wood dash though.

Wow, thought you took a picture of my car's interior! You're identical to mine.
Guess lots of guys ponied up to the bar and installed the shifter/ebrake Rootwood pair! One of the best upgrades a P-car owner can do to help create that real European feel.
The shifter and e brake go well and add necessary organic warmth to the interior.
However, like others have said, the wood dash IMO, is very tacky, tacky, tacky.

No wood trim for me-I'd assume remove parts that are non-essential than to stick more on...plus, I don't think the look is "Porsche" at all. Wood is good for big luxo cars, RV's, bookshelves, barrels and old boat hulls.

Wood in 993?
Fits as nicely as chrome wheels or cupholders = doesn't belong there and defenately it robs sports character.
There are so many different Porsche owners out there, some people even fit aftermarket armrests, subwoofers and even cupholders in their Porsches.
For me, those would be the last things I could even imagine (well, I can't) having in my Porsche, still many people have them.
But without a question, these kind of items as mentioned above, rob sports character, and that is not an opinion, it's a fact.
They add luxury (and weight!) to a car which is not IMO supposed to be a luxury car, it's supposed to be a sportscar!
To be, or not to be (a sportscar guy)?
That is the question.
