I did have a question for you: any other remedies discussed for your offset issue. I am having a similar issue with my wheels and Forgeline is going to try to fabricate a spacer to change the offset to keep the 2" of lip (if it doesn't work I may end up needing to remove a 1/2 inch if want to go any lower).
I don't know if this will work, but I will try to post a link to my thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=akolodesh

I guess the tire prices weren't so bad after all.

Cary (cfdarch)
Yeah, I guess this means I can go racing now, as soon as I get used to these tires and wheels....

KASH,
I need to remember how to post one of these pics as my avatar...do I have to send one to John D. or is there a way to do it myself?? John if you read this, just take the pic I posted in this thread that looks like the one I already have and do your magic!!

nile13 and akolodesh,
Here is the deal with my wheels and the offset.....I ordered the rims and said I wanted a large rim on the rears. They said, "A two inch lip is standard but we can give you a 2 1/2 inch if you want". I said O.K. as long as the offset and the fender clearance didn't get screwed up. So the rims were ordered. I got on Rennlist (thank God, and Viken) about three nights later and someone else was discussing offsets for 18" NB rims. Everyone was insistent upon having a high fifties to mid sixties offset for the rears.

The next day I call my wheel shop and ask what the offsets were for my order. 47 fronts and 43 rears they said. WHAT!?!?!?! I started freaking out, and the owner said "Hey, if you doubt it's right let's call HRE right now". We called them and they reassured that those offsets would in fact fit a narrow body 993. I then told them my car had been lowered over one inch and they said it was still O.K. Viken and everyone told me they would not fit, but I gave HRE the benefit of the doubt.....I will never doubt Viken again!!

Wheels come in and the rears looked like this...

Anyway, they were obviously rubbing in every turn and every speed bump (even though they looked kinda bad ***) So off they went back to California or wherever to HRE. They graciously took them back and fixed them without complaint, so they do live up to their reputation. I just wish we had all got it right the first time.

You can look at my new wheels posted earlier (63 ET rear, 47 ET front) and these pictures of the wheels that were too wide (43ET Rear) and figure somewhere in between was a set of rims that I could have had that still gave me the 2 1/2 inch lip along with the proper caliper clearance and the right offset. Unfortunately I did not get exactly what I wanted, but the rims are absolutely beautiful, so I won't complain.

The bottom line is offset is paramount on these cars (as the wise Viken would tell you), and my guess is there is probably seven or eight mm of caliper clearance that we could have used for more lip, or they could have redesigned the middle (face) of the rim to give me more lip while wrapping around the caliper, but that would have meant them starting from scratch.

I guess I have rambled on long enough....if there are any questions I did not answer, just fire away!!

Oh yeah, and if any of you ever wondered what your 993 would like as a hot rod with extra wide wheels, just refer to the pictures above!!!

Robert, thank you very much!
My 19" HREs (same as yours, 545s) are 50mm offset front and rear and I'm trying to figure out how they would look (on somebody else's car, I'm not keeping them). I guess they would stick out a bit less with 50mm offset than 43mm. I spoke to HRE and they claim that they were custom-made for narrow body car for previous owner. So I'm surprised that they went even further down to 43mm offset. I guess some like them sticking out.

Oh, a pertinent question would be how wide are your wheels?

Sorry about that. They are 18x8.5 in the front and 18x10 in the rear.

Same width as mine. So... 50mm will look interesting. I should just throw the wheel on teh car and have a look at it.
Thanks!

Throw them on and let's have a look at them.

Funny thing is, the 43 offsets didn't look THAT bad, but they rubbed the fender wheels on every single minor bump. It was a little too much!!

Good luck with yours...

Very nice Robert. I have a white '97 with black top. Haven't lowered it yet, but I did put Supercups and fat tires on it last year. I love the skirts and new front. Sweet.

mimmo,
I got my side skirts from Gert. They are Porsche OEM side skirts from the factory aerokit one package. Porsche never promoted them much in the U.S.

Tony,
I won't lift if you send me your TT as soon as you're done with it. That car is my only weakness as far as what I have now.. I still cannot give up the convertible top to gain 100hp, but I want a TT someday.

KASH,
I tried last night but my photo was too big...I'll hit photoshop now and see if I can fix it.
