It simply clips in the side of the console. It never slips even under full load of two cups. I paid $35 at the VW dealer.

Thumbs down

Call me old fashioned but I like to keep both hands on the wheel when I am driving. Don't you guys spill a lot of fluid? Maybe this is indirectly linked to that running water post?!

Cheers,

David

PS Here in the UK, we stop to take our liquid refreshment - usually at a quaint old English pub or tea house <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" />

Does anyone have the cupholders from
<a href="http://www.drinkholders.com" target="_blank">www.drinkholders.com</a> ?

Looks pretty nice. A lot like a single version of the Volk's holder, perhaps a lot less expensive..

Dan,

Do you have the flip down version or the dual that fits in the tray? I think I like the flip-downs on the tunnel but want to make sure they won't get in the way (on the driver's side).

I have the double flat cupholders between the seats from drinkholders.com (installed by the PO) and I had a bad experience with them. Tip: Don't try full braking with a cup of coffee in the forward holder. Because the holders face forward and the cup gets wider toward the top, the cup will then fly right out of the holder. I had the arms adjusted to hold the cup pretty securely and it didn't do much. For a straight-sided can of pop, they might work better, but for angled cups, forget it. Needless to say, I don't use these any more.

Oh, and one other thing: I thought these also interfered with my right arm when I'm shifting.

If I were to look at getting another cupholder, I'd either go for the VW or Ultimate cupholds mentioned earlier in this thread. Those look a lot more secure than the drinkholder.com models.

It's the only mod my wife requested. I thought it a fair trade-off for her amused acquiescence to whatever other mods I've wanted.

I really like the VW cup-holdders, is the VW dealer the only place to get them. Also what's the part number or whcih car is it for (originally). How hard is it to install and does it require drilling holes.

Thanks

As a follow up - the guy from Ultimate Cupholders just responded that he doesn't have a 993 model yet and is still looking for a "testing partner" in the DC area.

Jason -

The VW Passat cupholder mounts by clipping under the seam on the passenger side of your center tunnel...about even with the glovebox. It is a friction fit and the weight of a cup or bottle further holds it on...using screws is optional. What I found is that from time to time, the cupholder would get dislodged when it was closed if a passenger accidently kicks it, or if my golf bag bangs down on it so I used screws to hold it down...otherwise it's on pretty sturdy. Because of the placement if you ever decide to remove it there will be very little evidence of the screw holes.
