Post Mechanic in Houston for PPI?

Hi. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reputable shop to do a PPI on a modified 1991 911 Turbo in Houston, TX? I'm in Las Vegas and am looking at buying this car long distance.

Thanks in advance.

Frank, I'm in Houston and can recommend two shops, both of which specialize in Porsches: Protechnic (281-879-8861) and Koby Motors (713-784-8937). I use both shops but usually go to Koby's because it's closer to my office. Protechnic is great at suspension work and always has GT3's and race prepped cars in the shop, although they do a fine job with regular maintenance. That's where I had the PPI done on my 92 C2, and it's been a great car.

Koby's also does good work. I know they work on some 930's, but I'm not sure whether they work on any 965's. They know 964's and 930's, so I don't see any reason why they couldn't evaluate a 965. They don't do any mod work, so I'm not sure how well they could evaluate the mods on the car you're considering.

Koby's will do a compression test on the engine whereas Protechnic will do a leakdown. I'm sure either shop could run either test if you have a preference.

If I had to pick one, I would go with Protechnic simply b/c they see a lot of 911 Turbos and do mod work. However, please call both shops and make your own evaluation. Koby's is so honest they would probably tell you to take it to Protechnic if that's the better shop for your situation. I know they won't do a PPI on one of their customer's cars b/c they believe you should get a truly independent evaluation.

Where's the car located? I know of a 91 Turbo for sale near my office at a high end used car dealership. It's located on Star Lane.

If it's near my office, I'd be willing to test drive it for you as a favor from one Porsche owner to another. Send me an email at ktk1234us@yahoo.com if you're interested.

Hi. I spoke with Mike Callas, who cannot do the inspection on short notice. I will call Protechnic.

Are there any other recommendations for a thorough PPI on a 964 Turbo? Thanks.
