Door Lock Problem (always unlocked) help!
Hi all,
I'm still working out the issues on my new '98 Targa. Brake issue is now fixed with a new master cylinder installed (the wife wasn't happy about that one!) but I'm still having trouble with the door locks.
The passenger side and the driver side doors will not lock. When I try the keyfob the horn sounds once. Trying the old school way (key in lock) does not work either, the key only turns about 45 degrees to the left and nothing to the right.
So, I pulled both door panels off today and as I'm not a locksmith, I squirted a little WD-40 and wished for the best. Well my wished didn't come true.
I guess I have a couple questions.
-What are the reasons for the alarm system not locking the doors?
-What are the reasons for the key not locking the door?
-Where is the best place to fix this problem (Dealer?, Locksmith?, Private Porsche Shop?)
Any help would be great!
Thanks everyone.
Adam

Door lock issue:
Push the electronic key button three times within ten seconds. This should reset the system and allow you to lock the door. This may be stating the obvious but the short horn sound will also be heard if a door is ajar when you attempt to lock the door. Assuming the doors are shut tight try the reset sequence.

I tried the electronic key button three times and the horn still sounds once. When pulling the door panels off today, I noticed a lot of black crumbled padding material at the bottom of the door, and it looked like it came of the inside of the door itself. Possibly water got into the doors at one point? Is there anything electronic in the door locks that could have shorted due to water?
I had a very similar problem. The horn would honk once, and the l.e.d.'s on the doors would flash differently than before. Problems was a failure of the power door lock actuator on the driver's side. When you tried to lock the doors with either the key or the power door lock fob, only the passenger door would lock.
I don't recall the exact cost but the part was around $200.

I tried using the keyfob remote 3 times in 10 seconds, and now both door l.e.d.'s are blinking twice quickly.
Thanks Fred, it seems as if I might have the same problem, except neither of my doors lock.

Do you happen to have an aftermarket (not Porsche) radio?

I have the stock porsche radio, but I found out it is not the original one after the dealership had to pull it for the correct code.
Could there be a bad sensor in one of the doors, hood, trunk, or glove box that would cause the car not to lock and the l.e.d's to continuously blink twice? Also, if this is the case, would this prevent me from manually locking the doors with the key?
