Question Becker Radio died

I have a 1996 993 targa with a stock Becker CR-210 radio head unit. For some reason I have no power to the radio. The car was new when I bought it and no modifications have ever been done to the radio or stereo system. It acts like a fuse, somewhere is blown, for some reason. Can anyone direct me as to where this fuse may be? I don't see any inline fuse holder under the dash. And, I can't gain access in back of the radio anyway. Everything else electrical in the car operates. If I have to pull the radio, how does one do this? It looks as if a special tool of some type is needed, as this is not your typical DIN style installation. Any insight into what might be wrong here would be appreciated.

just a long shot here: if it is the same as my cdr-210, it has a partial removable face plate. try removing it(faceplate), checking contacts, then replacing it. It happened to me. I must have accidentally touched the release button on mine while tuning it, and thought the head unit was dead. Cheapest fix on my 993 so far! max

Assuming the car's fuse for the radio is fine (you did check the fuse in the trunk?), there is a fuse in the back of the unit - the red thing in the photo below. You'll need to pull the radio which is easy, IF you have the tools.

Thanks for the information. I did, indeed check all fuses in the trunk. All seem fine, so it looks like the radio will have to be pulled. Looks easy enough if you have the "keys". Question is, where can you get these? Does a dealership have them or are they available at a Radio Shack, or something like that? I live many miles from a dealership, so if I could find them nearby, that would be helpful.

I recently had the same problem, with the same radio and the advice from Dan about the fuse on the back of the unit was right on.I too am a good distance from a Porsche dealer but found that the tool is the same for a Benz and got it at a nearby dealership for $4.00.When I reinstalled the unit I rerouted the harnesses a bit so I can get at the fuse without pulling the radio in the future.

Becker removal key is available from dealership, on eBay and, if you're fortunate, comped from a Becker vendor vendor.

Don't forget that you will need the radio code if you disconnect the power.
