Default price check 993 996

I have a choice between a 95 993 tip with 50,000 miles and a 99 996 stick with 40,000 miles. Both with little options both clean but the 95 is very clean. how much more is the 996 worth.

In the US, maybe $10-15K more...depends on a lot of things - location, color, PPI, etc. The 996 will continue to depreciate faster than the 993 though..as prices seem to have levelled off a bit for 993s.

Tiptronic 993's are in Europe worth a bit less than a stick. Don't know if the NA market has the same price settings though...

993 are a bit better built than early 996, atleast according to latest GT Magazine.

Price difference in Europe is about 10K between an early 996 and a early 993.
Funny though, a 993 2S/4S goes for a higher price than a 996 2/4

IMO....

Get the best 993 you can afford. It is the last of the aircooled Porkers and they were not built on a cookie production line. Their value is starting to increase.

If you can get the January issue of 911 & Porsche world, they did an excellent article on the cars. If not, I have scanned the article in my computer and would print and mail the info to you. Email me with your address if you want it.

Before buying my 993 RS, I was considering a 996 GT3. The 993 is harder and meaner than a 996 in seat of the pants driving... though a 996 is brilliant by its effortless performance. My grandmother could drive a 996 competently

I sold my 96 993 and bought a 996. I kept it for 6 months and I am now back to a 993 again. The 996 just felt numb!

Having owned a 993 and a '99 996, hands down get the 993. Now if you were talking '02 996, then I might go the other way. 99 996 prices are still dropping. I think the 993's especially the 95 models have seen their depreciation.

Are 993 tips worth less in the N.A. market? If so how much, there are less buyers for tips for sure.

I like the 993 alot more than the 2002 996 I had. I would get a 6-speed for sure though. Keep looking and you may prefer a 96-98 model too with the Varioram motor (12hp more and more midrange torque).

I drove a 97 tip targa and was disappointed with the transmission. The 6 speed manual is the only way to go for me. I also have a 88 911 G50 5 speed and the 993's 6 speed really makes the 993 feel quicker. 217 vs. 282 hp but the sensation of "rowing thru" the 6 gears with the 993 really makes it a pleasure to drive. But the 88 has its fine points too, can't see selling it unless I absolutely have to. Drive both before you decide, price comes in second to pleasure.

The track boys would say no to the Tip, due to it's lack of value to large portions of porsche people who want a trackable manual car....if you are not going to track it or if you drive in stop and go traffic...the 993 is the bet. I know my next p-car will be a tip, due to getting tired of doing the 1st - 2nd gear and then stop at the light game.

The shear number of 996s sold/leased will guarantee that prices/values will fall past any 993. Does anyone know the production numbers?

Tens of thousands for the 996 vs. thousands of the 993.

just curious how did porsche go from selling thousands of 993 to ten of thousands 996 other then leasing. because in 98 you can lease a porsche as in 99 and leasing did not become that popular over one year.

Remember that the introduction of the 996 coincided with the run up of the Nasdaq to 5,000. That and subsequent low interest rates have helped to sell ALOT of cars (not just Porsches).

OK everybody! I have a PM box full of 993 Buying guide requests. No sweat, I'll get to it today.

I did trials yesterday; the results as follows.

In color, each page was 21 MBs!!! X 10 pages!!!

In compressed TIF: around 3.0MBs. Better but not really it.

So I tried every trick I know and emailed the result to myself. Anything below compressed.tif is not readable.

I will email the pages 2 at a time to everyone who requested; expect 5 large emails from me. Ensure your McAfee/Norton will allow reception.

For those who do not receive, I will print and mail... the man is generous to a fault

For Porsche Canada: the 993 is really it if you want to get into Porker motoring at low cost and low depreciation. The 996 is now mostly lease cars; in the same league as a big Bimmer. Good for Porsche but the car is boring compared to a 993.

Forget about TIP. (IMO)
