Default New rubber - suggestions?

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've followed 993 threads on RL.

I need some new rubber for 993c2s (18's) . What are we recommending these days? No track usage. SoCal.

Thanks.

My recommendation would be either the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S AKA PS4S or the Continental Extremecontact Sport. I have the PSS on my car, the previous version of Michelins tire and it overall is a great option for sporty driving while retaining some amount of ride comfort, wet weather performance and tread life. Great turn in response and a pretty high level of grip. The Continental is a great budget option that I have on my ND Miata. Depending on size, it can be considerably cheaper than the Michelin while offering 90% of the performance.

I had the previous Pilot Super Sports and replaced them with the Pilot Sport 4S - really fantastic tires!
The Continental ECS were/are also a great tire, but the PS4S seems like another level altogether to me.

I have Extreme Sport on my 996 and 4S on the 993... definitely go 4S.

I wish the 4S's were available in the 17" version as I just bought tires & went with the a/s 4's. I don't track & couldn't see the price of the PS 2's being feasible for my driving. I know there are other choices, but Michelin's are higher in the list for well handling tires. So for the driving I do...... I'll see.

Forgive my stupidity, but for Michelin I'm only seeing:
- Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect
- Pilot Sport PS2

I don't see a 4S?

OP: since you're not tracking, Michelins are a safe, but pricey choice.
I've a WB and switched from Continental to Sumitomo HRT Z. 1/2 price for just about the same performance. Am happy w/ them since.

I just bought a set of Hankook Ventus v12 evo2 tires for my C2. Cost was about $550. I ran these on my old E46 M3 and I run on my S8. Fantastic tire for the money.

I have the exact same sized tires on my 993 and my 355 (225 and 265 18's). My 993 has cheapo Sumi's and my 355 came with new Pilot Sport whatevers (the latest greatest $$$ Michelins) and the handling sharpness and road feel is clearly superior in my 993. Probably not much to do with the tires (355's are known for sort of vague steering feel) but it does reinforce a long held belief of mine that spending lots of money on tires for street driving is basically dumb.

Thinking about this as well.

Can't go wrong with 4S for street, good for wet too when compared with say Cup 2 and maybe even the PS2. Dunlop is another good tire with their Race Maxx series, but that's like a Cup 2 tire. Don't think those sizes are available and would not be necessary for street, I mention Dunlop because I think there's a lesser more street tire for our 993s which could be good based on Race Maxx experience.

Most of the replies have failed to realize your looking for WB fitment 225/285. The 4S is not available in this configuration.

Conti Extreme seems to get good reviews for that cost. If you want a bit more aggressive performance consider Bridgestone Re71R or Yokohama AD08 but I see they aren’t available at Tire Rack.

The old Z3 Sumis are popular but they recently changed to Z5

They are available if you run 225 or 235 with a 40 sidewall and 275 or 285 with a 35 sidewall.
