Need help identifying cel.
Looking to purchase a '96 993 and the seller states the cel will come on infrequently. He was told once by the dealer it was a bad sensor but does not recall which sensor was mentioned and would require an engine out to replace it. It did not cause any harm to the vehicle so they opted to leave the bad sensor alone for now. And when disconnecting the battery and reconnecting the cel will go away for about 5-6months.
any thoughts on the type of sensor?

Just a guessing game without the code readout. Check engine lights are usually emissions-related and so even an inexpensive generic OBD Code reader can give you some information. Also if you get an inexpensive generic handheld Autel AL519 reader it will verify the readiness state of all the test flags an additional indication if you have an emissions problem that requires action or the seller has recently cleared the codes potentially to cover up issues.
I would bring a reader with me when looking at any used 993 for purchase.
