Well, I did the deed! Sears 3 ton floor jack and 3 ton jack stands. Plate off, hockey puck on end of jack arm, under crankcase, stands inserted...no problem, no damage, 15 minutes (going very carfully!).

Thanks to everyone for helping with this.

I'm curious on the "crankcase jack point" point, if there's any other Renn listers with a viewpoint on that.

My experience was that it worked absolutely fine with no cracks or complaints from or marks left on the car.
