I am curious where people get their cars serviced. Do you still take it to a Porsche dealer or do you have a local "trusted" mechanic? I still use my dealer, but mainly because I trust the specific mechanic who services the car (plus I am to lazy to find anyone else). Others? When buying a used car- would it matter to you if the service was performed by a non-PCNA mechanic?

 

Once my cars are out of warranty, I always have used a non-dealer mechanic. I only take the car to the dealer for specific things that only the dealer is equiped to do.

That said, I am always looking for a good/trustworthy mechanic!

Maybe we collectively should try to comprise a list of private mechanics based on people's experiences? Just a thought.

 

Since my car was new in '98, I have never taken it to the dealer for service (or, for anything). Never had a warranty issue, so there was no need to take it to the dealer. I have always had it serviced by a trusted independent. I take my car to <a href="http://www.herg.net/" target="_blank">Hergesheimer MotorSports</a>

 

Maybe Rennlist should start a thread for peoples mechanic experiences.

Hey all,

For those of you living in the S. Florida region, I would highly recommend Foreign Affairs Motorsports in Pompano. They are off Sample Rd. and Powerline.

They specialize in Porsche, BMW. There mechanics are top notch and they have a beautiful shop.
I believe they also do your first oil change for free.
They are the only shop I allow to touch my cars. They work on my X5 as well as my C2S.
They also do racing. They store, maintain, build, fix, etc.
They have an arrive and drive program for the track and trackside assistance.
They also have a showroom with lots of mods and track stuff. Helmets, suits, roll cages/bars, etc.
They really are top notch...

Largely trust those three local mechanics called "Me, Myself, and I". If they can't handle it, there is an independent shop I trust.

Member of the PCA? If so, ask your local region board committee or local members who to go to. NOT a member of PCA? Then you don't deserve owning a Porsche!

 

Since new I only took my car to the dealer once for its 1st oil change, found a good independent and as others have said it works out pretty good. I'm always at the parts dept of the dealer buying stuff though.

When I request I can watch while my car is being worked on and my mechanic(ASG in NoVa)also supports a racing team and preps p-cars for track events so that's an extra plus.

I do it all myself.

If something that requires a specialty tool comes up, then I go w/ my local Bosch authorized shop.

Becker, how do you stand the wait to get your car into ASG? they usually tell me 6 weeks minimum.

Wow...

...6 weex wait @ ASG? Are you speaking of strictly race applications? Granted, I'm not a very experienced mechanic, but Ivan at IMA in Fairfax has done a nice job for me. We seem to be so blessed with good shops in this area I'm curious what warrants such patience!

I usually call Ed for an appointment and most of the times is within 7-10 days' time I get set up. I bug them quite a bit getting track inspections for both my 993 and E34. So far so good.
