If you were to buy the Focal AS130 kit and our pods, you'd get the whole lot for £214. It looks neat and sounds a whole lot better.

NOT TRUE. I put some serious time and $$'s into the system- 2 Focal 8" subs in the rear footwells, 6 channel JL 700W amp under passenger seat, ADS plates in the rear and Rockford Fosgate system up front - all run with a DSP Sony head- it sounds KILLER.

I know that this thread is almost 3 years old, but for those that installed Focal tweeters in the stock pods, was there any modification necessary? I tried to move my Focal TN43 tweeters into the pods, but they are just a little too big. Which model Focal 165s are you all running?

I just did this last month along with the PCCM. I used Focal 5 1/4 " and the TN43 tweeters along Alpine 3" as my car has the "premium sound". Also retained the Nokia amp and the original rear speakers as they were in excellent condition. Mine is a coupe so there is no real option for the rear replacements. System sounds great compared to the original setup but not anywhere near the Premium Bose setup on my 997.
As to the tweeters, they will fit in the original pods. Dig out the original tweeter from the Porsche pod and remove the cover from the Focal. It will fit in the pod and you can hot melt glue it into the pod. I cut a section out of one of the Focal adapter pieces to make a retainer ring to hold the tweeter into place before I hot melt glued it into place. Since the original Porsche tweeter has a capacitor crossover built into it, I installed a Skar Crossover into the wiring upstream of the tweeter. The Focal 130AS set came with a fancy crossover but it did not work in this setup. The Skar is a simple capacitor but works great. Since the Nokia amp has two feeds to each door, one being a "subwoofer" frequency to the 5 1/4" and another full frequency feed to the 3" speaker with the tweeter line taken from there.
Bottom line is the Focal TN43 will fit just fine in the original pods, you just need to provide for the crossover somewhere. I may have pics somewhere from this surgery. All in all, everything fits in the original "HiFi" option system and looks pure stock although there is a bit of fidling for the speakers to fit but nothing major.

Thank you. How does the cover of the TN 43 come off? Did the tweeter look like this?

No, my TN43 's do not look anything like that. The one in your picture looks like the one in the budget kit like Focal RSE-100 ($129 at Crutchfield). Mine are from the Focal 130AS kit from Crutchfield ($379). Look on the Crutchfield site for the 130AS kit. The tweeter is small and has a perforated grille cover. Based on looks and price difference, I would say they are way different. The 130AS kit is highly recommended , others may and will have different opinions. This is their high end kit and you can maintain the full stock appearance in a 993. For the 3" speaker, I think the only option is the Alpine.
I looked and I do not have pictures of the tweeter installed in the Porsche pod,. However if you get the tweeters that I have, you will see how they come apart.

Did your tweeters look like this?
You may be correct about my set, as it appears to be a mixed set. The 6.5" driver is a Focal 30th Anniversary

I installed Focal Performance 165AS3. Tweeters fit nicely into the stock pods.

Good luck.

I replaced the main speakers (not hifi) with co-axial Musway MQ62 6.5" as recommended by Gert Carnewal. You can leave the original tweeters in place and connect them directly to the main speaker inputs as they have their own inbuilt capacitor crossover. Works well with the main speakers doing most of the heavy lifting and the Nokia tweeters just adding some ambience. Regardless of main speakers (as long as they are co-axial) just hook up the Nokia tweeters, you will be surprised how well they perform. Nothing to lose by connecting them!

To the OP, yes, my tweeters look like the one in your picture ,at least from the front. I don't think the backside of mine look like the pic from Black993s. I don't recall the shiny metal backside. In any event, these will work and fit in your original pods.
