Default Suspension Update Help

My 993 is in need of a little attention suspension wise, I picked up a c7 corvette grandsport recently and that thing feels like it is on rails but not too jarring. I know the vette has magnetic damping but it makes the 993 feel so sloppy.
What would you recommend to firm things up to give it that canyon carving feel? I will be using it mostly for canyon carving, auto cross and the occasional DE event. Please I have been scouring the threads and using the search tool, drooling over this set up and that but I can't tell what set ups are over kill for me and what set ups will really make a difference. I presently have H&R sport spring kit with new shocks and front struts (at the recommendation of a local INDY shop), those were put on about 12,000 miles ago. Right after that install I recall barely being able to notice the difference between that setup and the stock set up that had 20 years of wear on it. This time I would really like to feel the difference. I want to greatly reduce the roll when carving turns, the car also does not feel terribly stable at high speeds. To be honest its kind of overwhelming when you read the threads. Not sure how far I really need to go to transform the car, bushings, control arms, suspension, what types... Thanks Guys, trying to breath some vitality back into my little 993 and get her the love she deserves.

Coilover package would be the way to go imo. Most common are PSS10 or KW V3 for out of the box ready to go. Ohlins R&T as well. Stepping above that you get into MCS and others. Just put MCS dampers and Eibach springs on my 964 and love it for strictly street and canyon roads.

take the car up to see Dan Jacobs at the 'Hairy Dog Garage'

It's very likely that you need all new bushes, for street use I'd go w/ all RS rubber stuff, Dan can also advise on shocks and springs

Dan and his son Baron do all the work on my '95. You won't find a more capable air cooled mechanic than Dan. He knows these cars inside and out. Definitely give them a call. We are very lucky to have them in our area.

You can spend more, but this is all you need.

glad that works for you, but it may not be all HE needs or wants.
FWIW, I was underwhelmed with the PSS10's i had.
They were adequate and better than stock, but I'll buy MCS or JRZ in the future (they also cost ~ $2k more so no surprise they are better for my use case).

Agreed! Especially adding the RS sways. Do it right.

Do you know if required maintenance/rebuild intervals are shorter on mcs or jrz compared to PSS10?

They publish shorter intervals than Bilstein but I’m not sure if they are trying to hit a higher bar or if the design really does require more maintenance.

Hi Todd,
" I recall barely being able to notice the difference between that setup and the stock set up that had 20 years of wear on it. " This seems highly unlikely if the follow-on alignment was done properly.
This suggests you need to find a dealer or someone who knows how to do a proper alignment of your suspension. If the rear Kinematic tow is out just a little it results in poor handling. My experience is even if a dealer with the correct 993 tools does the alignment it may take a bring-back and redo to get it right. I suggest you get a good alignment before throwing money in suspension parts at your car. Although highly unlikely, if your struts turn out to be bad look into if they can be rebuilt and save a little coin!

This, even better with RS front uprights.

Obviously budget is an important driver when determining an upgrade package.

I spoke with the shop and they said the H&R set up I installed was meant to lower the car and be similar spring rates to stock, and that i should not expect a dramatic difference
He told me the spring rates and of course i forget, something in the neighbor hood of 300,

Just for comparison
993 M030 spring rates are 155/286#/in
993RS 246/457
Cup 1142/1256
I use 600/750

The shock valving is extremely important when you get up into the motorsports range of ~600/800

alignment also is critical a tad more or less of any of the camber/caster/ toe specs is easily felt at speed

When my car has been handling poorly it's always been one of the following
blown shock
alignment out of spec
wrong tire pressure
worn bushes
