You had great timing to get that price, luckily the one I replaced for the $28 was the worse of the two in the rear and sound is much improved.
Dealers that post a $30 something price cancel your order when placed. I tried to order some from 3 different dealers that had the low or year old old prices still posted but each order got cancelled or I was notified of the price change.
I even tried LA Dismantlers who quoted $40 but their speakers offered were disintegrated.
There are places that Re cone speakers and that may be an option for less $$...
The parts manager checked the stock locator yesterday and he couldn't fine not one rear speaker in the United States for the $28.00 price. The parts manager can order rear speakers, new part number, for $200.00 each!!!
Re- cone speakers sounds like an excellent idea if done correctly, and you stay original. I never knew it was possible. The only Porsche alternative is to buy one new rear speaker for $200.00.
Please keep me informed on how you resolve your headache.
Found a reputable place locally that will re-cone the 4x4 rear speakers for $ 25.00 each.....will be headed there today to drop them off........8 ohm 4x4s are hard to find of that size/mounting depth, etc...........
Prices ranged from $25-$50 each with some people working out of their house here, etc......went with one with a storefront and best reviews in business 20 years plus and re-coning technician on staff....
I'll advise on result......I searched the web for speaker re-coning services near me and some good options......there are also mail-service businesses that specialize in this repair......
Thanks centerpunch! I'll check the specifications when the parts manager returns Monday to compare if the speakers are the same size , depth, connections, and if the Porsche speaker covers will interchange.
That speaker highlighted might work and no need for OEM screen as the screen is built in.....great price relatively speaking...thanks for the lead...the spec sheets have all the dimensions for comparison ....also it is 8ohm which in that size hard to find....

These are the dimensions for the Visato 8 ohm speaker from parts-express .......versus OEM...... the mounting holes are 3.188 inches versus 3.25" for OEM........depth is 1.77 versus 1.75inches for the OEM..........overall, a really close fit but according to this diagram, it would require new mounting holes to be made for the new Visato speakers. Magnet diameter fits at 2.4" versus 2.5 for OEM......and the rest of the dimensions seem to be workable.......so it comes down to making new holes, which would cover the old holes with the built in frame/screen.......could reuse the OEM screws and possibly the screw anchors..........hopefully the re-coning effort I have made works for $50 versus the $400 for rear cab OEMs..........I will pick them up sometime in the next 10 days.....
I think those dimensions look close enough (hole centers 1/32” off) that those speakers would most likely be a direct fit. Maybe you’d need to drill the mounting holes in the speaker slightly larger.
This morning, I ordered a spare set of front speakers from Porsche, before the remaining stock was depleted nationally. I put a new set in approximately one (1) year before the rear speakers increased ten-fold. I checked, and thankfully, I saved the original speakers removed from car. Based on Abiazas' feedback on the re-coned speakers, I will get my original speakers re-coned.
Please keep us informed.

Andrew- If we all had rennlist signatures like yours (I’m so old I’ve had over 60 cars), there wouldn’t be any room for the posts!
Thanks, I am working on adding a few more) luckily I didn't add my company cars over the 40 years I had them to this signature)
Found some new OEM woofers - 993-645-503 for upper speaker door area for $30 each at dealer, so much less expensive than the rear cab speakers - 964-645-504-00 that are now going for $200 each.....installed in an hour both sides needing a 9 TORX screwdriver to take out the woofer on both sides.....some photos.....having the rear speakers re-coned for $25 each......

Got back the two disintegrated rear speakers for my cab re-coned for $45 and left my two front door subwoofers to be re-coned to keep as spares for the next 20 year)) The rear re-coned speakers are just like new and highly recommended to do when OEM prices gets out of sight with the superseded part numbers.......
I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but as a newbie 993 owner (95 C4) it's been hugely helpful in me trying to figure out what stereo system I have. I'm attaching photos of my head unit and, from the frunk, the CD stack unit and amp (original docs were included for all three). The window sticker shows that the car was optioned with "AM/FM RADIO WITH CD PLAYER." Based on the photos above, I'm assuming my head unit is original. Would the dealer have installed the CD stacker and amp in the frunk?
Thanks for any insight you can offer on the history of my stereo. (Sorry the photos are so big -- I don't how to change that).

The headunit is original I'm pretty sure. My 1995 with option code 694 came with the same Alpine. I thought the CD changer option was Porsche branded but I'm not sure. Certainly looks like a custom dealer or third party install for both the CD changer and the amp.
