The internal Porsche series designation numbers for the 911 is not sequential and have no particular order in their assignment to models.
The 993 is the last of the air cooler cars the 992 is presently the current water-cooled car.

Hey guys the undocumented Rennlist etiquette on such postings is for some member to give a straight answer first and then the silliness can ensue!

For me, the interesting aspect of the OP's question is with all the extremely rigorous operation of all aspects of the Porsche organization one would think the factory would have published the official reason for the model sequence designation nomenclature. The nomenclature that seems to assign an internal vehicle series number that starts with a 9 and ends in a random fashion?

i wouldn't call it sequential, but it least there was some order initially - 901, 911, 930, 959, 964, 993, 996, 997. then came the 991 and now 992. i assume we're up to 994 on the next one?
