Default 96 Targa help - pending purchase

Anyone have any experience with the Targa top for 96' 993. I am in the middle of wrapping up the purchase of a black/cashmere with 14,000 miles and I have been informed by the seller that the clips that I believe operate the sunshade are broken. I'm not sure if this is a difficult fix but my local Porsche dealership told me they do not sell the clips, they have to be purchased aftermarket and they will not install and they are likely to fail again. Any thoughts? Experiences? Photos attached

Looks like those are #993-562-557-00 and they are available.

I don't have my car to look at right now, but as I look at that, are you sure they are broken? If I remember correctly, (and I may not!) they just get pushed up in the rail under another piece to provide tension. It's worth looking closer beforehand.

Gav- thanks for the information. I have not yet received the car so I'm not certain.

From the pics it appears that the sunshade spring steel is the least of that roofs problem. Did the owner open/close the glass roof? In the 2nd pic it appears the glass pivot bracket is MIA. The glass top will not close into the up position completely with one side missing. The glass top pivot bracket is very expensive when considering the size and weight of the part, $240 each. In the link Gav provided I think part #7 requires replacement as well which is why the spring steel is moving out of position or away from its mounting points. This pic from the summer when I replaced one of the little bastards.

I have a 96 targa. Parts are available. I had a similar problem with my sun shield. Had to replace the pull bows and the shield clips. When my sun shield was not operating properly it pushed the steel spring out of position when the top was opened. I repalaced sun shield parts but also had to bend and re-position the steel springs. When you open the roof you have to watch carefully that the steel spring is not binding with the top. It has to have clearance but it’s a tight fit.

As someone else said if the sun shield is fully retracted does the top work?

I did all my own targa work because there is not much expertise out there. Spent a lot of time curled up in the back getting everything installed. It’s a PIA to work on but when it’s fixed it’s a great experience.

Hi JB,
This is exactly how mothers form strong attachments to their children. If they weren't such a PIA one wouldn't love them so much.

The feedback is much appreciated. It's a pretty mint car with 14,000 miles and the car is from a reputable seller and Porsche enthusiast. We did agree to cut $1,500 from the price. Here is another photo and a video of the top in action: https://kaiserhospitality.sharefile....067644726d2245

From this photo it looks like the wind deflector is not completely closed.
