Default Hello 993!

I finally decided to become an actual Rennlist member. I've been following the forums for quite some time but never felt I really had anything to contribute. Until now...

I recently acquired a 98 C2S. The previous owner made no modifications and didn't drive it much, so I have the honor of figuring out how to make it something even more special to me.

My tentative needs and plans are as follows:
1. New engine mounts; RS or Wevo
2. Drive it
3. Suspension Refresh; PSS10s or KW v3s
4. Drive it
5. Fister II and SSK
6. Drive it

That's about it for now.

Cheers,

--
J

Well done and seems you have been paying attention. Suspension, Golden Rod and mufflers are the best and IMHO the only mods needed for these cars! Replace motor mounts only if needed. That's a maintenance item.

Love white wide bodies..

Congratulations - beautiful car!

Good list of mods, I have mostly similar ones on mine. I did notice that the semi-solid mounts (I have the Rennline ones) make a big a NVH change to the car. In my case, it made my stock muffler sound so much louder inside (no outside noise change). If I was to do it again, I would probably go options 3-6 first and then options 1 and 2 (which were great for the track). But either way you are in for a treat with all these mods and a great car like the 993!

Congrats and enjoy in the best of health!
A new DME relay installed or carried as a spare is a good idea too. It’s a cheap part, easily installed or kept in the car and if it fails you can’t start the car.

Thanks!

The worn motor mounts are the only item left on the PPI for me to address which is why they're #1. I'll probably drive as much as possible until rains before I decide on which engine mounts I install. This will be used mostly for street and autocross. As soon as I'm more comfortable driving a car without nannies, I'll start to entertain some track time.

Cheers,

Nice! Congratulations and welcome to the club.

Mods look right - FWIW, I'm very happy with the PSS10's and RS mounts.

Without spending significantly more of your money, i'd recommend adding LED exterior bulbs and HID low beams from Tore (HUGE improvement). Also a bluetooth head unit - I got a Continental which works just fine and looks (IMO) period correct. If I had to do it over, I'd get the Blaupunkt Bremen (now available through Crutchfield). When I'm driving the 993, I don't care so much about music, but BT integration for navigation directions, phone (in a pinch), and music (sometimes) is a plus. And it's literally a 5-minute reversible install.

Enjoy the new toy honeymoon!

Congrats and welcome, that's a great list of mods to start things off. Spend plenty of time driving and getting to know the car. Let's see more pictures!

Congratz Jay,

One of the best and also least expensive upgrades is to replace the 25-year-old brake hoses with DOT Approved braided ones. Makes for a big difference in brake feel. It is also a very easy DIY job one can d in their driveway with jack stands.
See the section about midway down this page:

https://993servicerepair.blogspot.co...uspension.html

The second one is to check the function of the Varioram vacuum actuators as one or more is likely not working and they generally don't throw an OBD Code. On this page is how to easily test them.

Enjoy your ride,
Andy

The 993 community continues to provide. I hope to document my 993 journey and share as much as possible.

@needmoregarage - The shop I got the PPI (San Carlos German Motor Works) recommended I keep a spare DME too. More "tribal" knowledge that continues to be passed on from others that have lived through the 993 experience. San Carlos German Motor Works got me set up to start driving the car immediately.

@milazzo_997tt - The car didn't come with too many options from the dealer. Here are a few: Touring Suspension, Motor Sound, Upgrade Sound System, Leather Seats

@mdude - The interior is beige/cashmere

@ShdwFx - The car was local to me in the SF Bay Area. Only 20 miles from my house. I knew a guy that knew a guy that knew a guy...

@mathfuzzy - Great idea on the exterior lights! I placed my order with Tore and I'm excited to do my first mod as early as next weekend. I've been looking into upgrading the stereo and have been initially looking into the Porsche Classic Radio. I will definitely check out the offerings from Blaupunkt since I'm mainly looking for Bluetooth connectivity.

@
pp000830 - Thank you so much for the links regarding the brake lines and vacuum actuators. Two things that weren't even on my list of todos but I will definitely check them out next time I'm under the car.

I'll definitely post pics as I begin this process of refreshing the old bits on the car. This will be the first car I try wrenching on myself. Just never had the time, resources or a place to do it which is why I had to be patient and pay a bit more to find a great vehicle that needed very little work (I can drive it as is but I can tell the suspension is shot). Hopefully I'll be at a great spot by the time the autocross season opens next year.

Cheers,
