Is there any trick to removing the round gasket in the exhaust ports?

They should just pull/drop out with a little nudge. If not, spray some carb cleaner on it and it should work

Just a follow up to this project. I did all my work in there, and was able to re-install the varioram without lowering the engine. It’s really difficult to reach all the items that need to be reconnected though, but it can be done.

Congrats! A true test of patience working in tight spaces.

I should add that I have a 4 post lift, which enables me to set the height of the car at an optimum level for whichever thing I was trying to reconnect in there. I can’t imagine doing all that with the car at ground level. Just an added consideration for anyone thinking of trying this.
