993RS brake set-up
A few months ago, I had upgraded to the usual Big Red set-up. Expected "Hand of God" stopping power, I was disappointed when I felt that my braking distances are perhaps now a little longer. More annoyingly, the ABS would keep on coming on, indicating the brakes locking up sooner.
The issue of brake bias has been discussed here several times and I was convinced that that was the culprit. (to recap, TT Big Reds on narrow bodies have significantly more front brake bias unless other changes are made). After mulling over getting a proportioning valve to adjust the bias, I decided to bite the bullet and go with the factory set-up, namely the 993RS brake set-up (993TT Big Reds up front but slightly different rears with larger pistons - to see pics comparing the difference, please refer to a recent post by Viperbob). I figured that the factory had probably done all the research and testing for the optimal set-up so why re-invent the wheel? A few folks here had also suggested the same thing when I had complained of the locking up.
After driving around all weekend, I must say that I am extremely happy with the results! The car now feels like its usual self and the brakes are solid.
So, my advice to anyone who's thinking of the Big Red upgrade is to consider getting rear RS calipers instead. FYI, I got mine from Crescent City Porsche and the price they gave me for the RS calipers were only about $30 or so more than the price for the standard rear Big Reds (I think the delivered price was around $690 total).
With a home purchase around the corner, hopefully this will be the last slippery slope upgrade for a while....NOT!

Rezal,
"With a home purchase around the corner, hopefully this will be the last slippery slope upgrade for a while....NOT!"
Ya know, you could just live in your car and knock two birds out with one stone? This way you'll have the extra $$ you need for more mods!!

I myself feel I need to shift some brake bias rearward. I too have a narrow body C2.
I show three part numbers for different rear circuit bypass valves, located on the ABS controller. I havent really been too serious about it yet as I havent decided whicj calipers I will end up with..
Has anyone else notice too much forward brake bias?
I realize this is designed into the braking system for a reason (average public driver)..

What would be the correct proportioning valve to use on a narrow body C2 with Big Reds? Anyone have a part number and est price?
WRT to the RS calipers, can they be used with the TT rear rotors or do the RS calipers use a different size? Part number for the calipers?
TIA

There is not a correct proportining valve to only use with the Big Reds as the factory never delivered such a system.
Yes, the RS rear calipers can be used with the standard TT / C4S rear rotors.
