Peter -- excellent synopsis.
To elaborate on the "different interior trim pieces," the 1997 Nov. Excellence review of the Carrera S states "An attractive steel gray finish covers the door sills, instrument rings, shift lever **** and hand brake handle. The dashboard and door panels are accented by textured black leather."
Of course, later in the article the author states: "The textured leather covering the dash looks a bit more suited to a pair of Air Jordans than a fine automobile . . . "
I do not think this type of leather is found on the C4S. Whether that is a good or bad thing is entirely subjective.
And, apparently, the body-colored split rear grill is "a symbolic tie-in to the final bodystyle of the 356 line before the introduction of the original 911."
